We had the most amazing views of the Java Sea. Each morning we would rise early enough to watch the spectacular sunrise over the sea as hundreds of fisherman would direct their boats back to shore with their catch of the day.

Amed is a popular destination for divers so we couldn’t pass up the opportunity to freshen up on our diving skills. This was our first shore dive and it certainly put our balancing skills to the test, walking over larger slipper rocks while equipped in our dive gear (including oxygen tanks). The visibility was somewhat poor but we were able to see beautiful coral and a variety of ocean life surrounding on old shipwreck (U.S. Liberty). Our dive master is a friendly Balinese Hindu called Made who immediately after the dive had to leave for a ceremony. The latter occupies a promiment part of Balinese Hindu life with ceremonies and rituals filling >200 days a year.
