It's nearly been a week since we last said anything to you guys so thought we should check in!
From Lovina we headed down the coast and went to Tulamben (which I, tiff still cannot say without getting it wrong). Tulamben is absolutely tiny, and there was just one restaurant. We stayed in some bungalows owned by the diving school, got kept up half the night by random dogs woofing- I believe the technical term is barking, and some bloody roosters crowing, from about 2am onwards.
Anyway the next morning we got up, donned our rather attractive wet suits and headed to the swimming pool. We did about 20 mins in the pool, doing the basics and then we left the dive school and walked over the road and into the sea.
We did three dives altogether, gradually gaining confidence with each one. Skinner had problems equalising so had to take it steady but I don't think it took anything away from how good it was!
For the first couple of dives we headed down onto the wreck of a ship which was torpedoed by the Japanese in WWII it was bloody mental! Its so close to
the shore we walked in off the beach and as soon as we couldn't touch the floor anymore we dived and there it was it was huuugggee!
As some of you may also know Skinner was not a fan of fish before we left the UK (Even the small ones we saw snorkelling in Spain) his fear was instantly cured though by the sheer numbers of fish and some of them were massive! We also saw some nemo fish, I've put the pics on so Charlotte can see them too.
For our last dive we swam the other way and went to the coral gardens. There were so many crazy kinds, including some weird multicolored lobstery type- I'll put the picture in and I'm sure one of you educated people will be able to identify it for us!
Anyway I absolutely loved it and would love to go again, Skinner had a great time too, although he's not quite as eager to jump back into the water as me because his ears were a bit funny for a couple of days after.
The dive guys we went with were brilliant and I'd recommend them to anyone (let
me know if you want their details).
So once completely tired out we headed down to Nusa Dua for a few days of pampering!
So we got a ride with the same driver that picked us up from Lovina (Mentalist), and he took us to the posh Gaff - ' The Grand Mirage'. Cue free drinks, free food (even room service in the middle of the night) free kayaking and free TV with 40 channels !! We did have a most excellent time with our friends who we met for their wedding. It was a brilliant doo with a chapel on a picture perfect beach followed by a 5 course meal on the beach afterwards, complete with private band playing everything from Layla to Hotel California to Don't look Back in Anger, all in their original and genuinely great indoniesian style. Not much else to report on these four days apart from good times enjoyed with great people. Happy Birthday again to Jona and yes Alan we saw the pictures !!
From the hotel we got a taxi to Danpaser and spent the night in a slightly less quality abode. Lets just say we wern't the only
guests in the room that night, and we were getting the mossie net out for the first time on our trip - ecitement indeed (only took two goes to get it up right too !).
Next morning we got up at 4am to get a taxi to Denpasar airport. Didn't start well as we had to wake the reception guy up - I think he thought no one would ever find out about his cheeky couple of ours kip ! Anyways from waking a guy up to help, we jumped in the taxi - complete with mega sounds (read early 90's euro techno) and he got us to the airport double fast and in time to get a home reminding Macdonalds !!
So the flight to Kuala Lumpur was uncommentable and that is where we are now. We spent day one wandering around Chinatown - lots of 'real' goods available, and very somey from all the Satays being cooked at the side of the road and very hot (but it still rains as we found out !
Day two (today) and we have walked up to Little India and it smells of really good food ! On
we walked through the rows and rows of Material and Indian clothing shops and stalls and ended up in the city centre and its massive Petronas Towers and the Awesomely big KL Tower. It really is just like the UK with the poshest and biggest Department store ever.
So now we are going to go to bed as we are up at 3 am to go to the Airport to go to Perhentian Islands.
We are being rushed out of the tinternet cafe and we will add more when we get back !!
We've put the photos in from diving will add the others soon
Love to you all
Andy and Tiff
