Back again!
So we left Balangan Beach and went straight to Seminyak which is above Kuta centre and near the beach. We hopped in a taxi and paid way too much (again). First tip, only use a taxi for small trips otherwise download the Uber app and order uber taxi's. We prefer to drive our scooters everywhere but if we need a car we get Uber which is not even a third of the taxi prices. Prices here in general have really gone up and you would be surprised how expensive it is over here, ok depending on where you go haha. You can hire a scooter for approximately 7 dollars a day and not only is this a cheaper way of getting around it also takes you to places a lot quicker. Traffic is quite busy at the moment and if you go by car you are stuck in traffic, however, if you scoot you just fly passed all these cars.. So good! Of course if you are with a bigger group and can share the cost, taxi's are fine to get around. At least you will have aircon ;-)
We arrived in Seminyak at the
Bnb Style hotel ,
we got this accomodation through Airbnb but it was basically a hotel (mainly backpackers). very small room but clean and modern. We paid 36 dollars per night but heard from other guests they paid 25 but they did not have hot water in the room so that could have made a difference. I like Seminyak cause it is a little bit busy but not like Kuta. Lots of restaurants and a lot of nice shops. I prefer shopping in the stores rather than those street shops as you constantly have to barter with the people and you never know whether you are paying too much or not enough. They often start really high so never just pay what they ask haha. I prefer shopping and looking at a price tag knowing this is what it's worth and I can decide whether to buy it or not. Sometimes we do get stuff from the shops but leave the bartering to Nathan as he is a lot better at it than me and I think he enjoys doing it. I am too weak and an easy pray for them, they smell my weakness. So the other day we were bartering with this
guy and I don't know what happened but I ended up bartering with Nathan for this guy. The guy was observing, laughing at us and thanking me as we walked off confused. So hopefully I will get the hang of this soon.
At Seminyak we met a couple from Brisbane and went for a little scooter drive to Berawa Beach so Nath and Julian could go for a surf and me and Astrid chilled at Finns Beach club. We only got to hang out with them one day as they were passing through so the other days me and Nath went on little trips on the scooter and saw a lot nice spots passing by. We went through Denpasar which is very local and we really enjoyed driving here. Not a tourist in sight, we were the only tourist driving through so some people looked at us a bit funny and we figured this is because tourists have taken over their whole island so they would be protective over their local places. Very understandable, nonetheless very nice to pass through here if you can.
On our last day in Seminyak we had to go to the police station
to sort something out and when we got there they were in the middle of a ceremony of some kind so we stopped but they waived for us to go through to the building inside. Went inside and had to fill out some paper work. All of a sudden we hear music and the cop just starts dancing in the office looking outside so we got up and here are all the police officers and detectives dancing this routine showed by this lady haha. I filmed this and posted it on Facebook if you haven't seen it yet. I went downstairs and filmed outside when an officer waived at me to join so I did and so there I was, dancing with the balinese police and some small school kids, in front of a police station, being filmed by the indo's. So much fun! such a random thing to happen that morning. Later my friend from holland told me this is the song that Indonesians in holland dance to the same way so it's probably not that random. They told me they dance every morning at 9am. Might just go there instead of the gym.
From Seminyak we went
back to Sanur and are now staying at
Semarandana hotel in a studio for 45 dollars a night which is actually the price for a deluxe room but we got a good deal cause Nathan asked haha and people here really like him so he got us good deal. It's actually 57 dollars a night, has it's own kitchen, lounge, tv and even dinner table. Very nice, big and clean. We will stay here till Monday but will try to come back here again.
We have mainly been trying to settle down here and figuring out a few things as Nathan will be going back to work on Monday for two weeks so we are taking it easy and we will start planning some exciting trips for when he gets back. In the meantime I will be doing a cooking class here in Sanur and getting keen for the gym cause it's so easy to just let go every day with all the nasi's, gado gado's and bintangs :-O. We will also visit our wedding venue this weekend which is exciting. Our friend Shannah will be in Bali on Sunday so we are excited to catch up with her. on Monday Nathan leaves for work and I will go to Singapore for a few nights then back to Sanur on Wednesday. If you need me to check out anything let me know and I will be happy to explore.
