To Seminyak we went, with great expectations of better beaches and relax time. Well the first expectation was met, the beach was wide and the sand was beautiful and the waves were awesome. On friday late afternoon the boys and I walked to the beach and sat and enjoyed listening to the surf pound, the waves had to have been 6-8 feet high. It was fantastic! Kid friendly no, but just wonderful to listen too. (Gerson opted to study, something about a big test coming up...) Side note, I bought a Sarong so now I have a skirt/beach blanket/temple attire for the trip. I hate bargaining so I probably spent more then I should have. Anyways back to topic. Seminyak had great beaches, however it is a super busy town. 10 years ago i would have loved it, however the toddler + stroller = slooooow going in the crowds. So back to the lonely planet book for some research. (My sister Cherrie suggested Lombok which looked great however a bit tough to get to) We decided to venture to Nusa Lembongan and hope for a peaceful beach. FINALLY we found it. We stayed at a great little hotel called Nusa Indah,
it was right on the beach, we ate every meal watching the waves, and it was facing west so we saw some fantastic sunsets. We had a great routine going of breakfast, AM nap for Owen, Mommy and Ethan head to the beach, come back hit the pool with both boys, lunch, then afternoon nap for us 3, and back to either the beach or pool before supper and bed. it was lovely.
Then the boo boo happened. Ethan was running back to the room, and "stubbed" his toe and ripped the skin partially off the end. After some consultations with the Dr. on call (Dr. Araujo) we decided to snip off the extra skin and wash it out, wrap it up and no beach or pool for Ethan for the day... Well that makes a very grumpy 2 year old. So what to do... rent scooter motor bikes and ride around the island! it was excellent, we actually had brought 2 Ergo carriers for this specific reason so we saddled up, and took off. What a fun day, we saw some great scenery and ended up at a fantastic little beach ironically called "secret beach" and it was
perfect. Also we have learned that Owen is completely hypnotized by the scooter, every time we drove anywhere he would pass out! Hopefully he won't love motorcycles too much or he will give his mommy more gray hairs! The next day Ethan had recovered enough that we could allow him to get back into the pool and beach, so back the routine we were. We also met a lovely couple with 2 boys around Ethan and Owen's age so they had some friends to play with which was very nice. So the couple convinced us to attempt to go snorkeling at Manta point to see the (Obvious) Manta Rays. So why not right?!?!
Well Gerson ate something (I blame the whole grilled fish he ate) so he decided to stay back and recover, well why not take the boys along? the couple said they would watch them in the boat while I snorkeled and we would take turns baby sitting... OK the waves were HUGE. It was ridiculous, what ON EARTH WAS I THINKING!!!! At one point I swear the ocean swells were like 20-30 feet high, and our boat was like a dingy compared. I was holding on
to the boys for dear life! We got to Manta point and the ocean was still very rough, and we (the adults) were all very seasick. We took turns snorkeling, I jumped in for like 15 minutes, and it was really amazing, the fish were beautiful, and there were between 5-6 mantas just circling so graceful. It was really awesome. Well then back to the chaos of the boat ride back, the other Momma lost here breakfast over the side of the boat, I managed to hold mine down because I wasn't quite sure how to puke over the boat, while holding onto Owen and Ethan, and if I had let go they would be swimming with fishies! Dry ground never ever felt better!
Well our time at the island came to an end, we headed to mainland Bali, where we were in a little rush and accidentally left an ATM card in the ATM at dock in Bali thankfully the Bali airport had free WiFi and we called and cancelled the card before too much time was lost and no money disappeared, we then hoped a plane to Bangkok. Again poor Owen's ears were awful. He screamed bloody
murder for about 20 minutes straight on the flight. Poor little guy I couldn't do anything to help him. about 2 hours into the flight we got a bag of chips down from the storage and it was about to explode, definately a rough flight for some little ears!
We landed and grabbed a cab and headed for Khaosan road, went into D&D to get a room, and they were almost all gone. They had 2 choices left, a small broom closet at the back, or a beautiful family room at the front of the hotel. We chose the family room, FAIL! If you have been here you know that the parties are crazy. And sure enough, the music started loud at 10, and didn't stop till 330/4. I was like, come on people it is bed time, it is 10 pm!!! Obviously they don't have children who are up at 7 am!! Thankfully we were able to switch rooms and have a much quieter option.
On Sabbath we went to church here at the mission hospital church in bangkok. The boys had fun at Sabbath School, and we enjoyed a taste of normalcy again, they people were
all very friendly and we even stayed for a delightful very Thai potluck, which left us wanting a break from Thai food, so of course we got Burger King (as American as you can get!) we all had a nice nap this afternoon and then hit the pool before bed.
From here we are headed to the Thai beaches and are unsure how much internet we will have.
We are loving our crazy time here so far even it is is accompanied by some boo-boos and tears occasionally. We are blessed to be able to enjoy this life!
