So since my last blog we got the 3 hour flight from Kuala Lampur to Bali and we've been here in Bali for a week now. Bali has been such a cool place to end our travels in Asia. The weather maybe could have been better but even then its been awesome to be here.
We got in the first night and the rain was pouring like it would never stop but we managed to get from our hotel to a bar to watch the football. We talked to guy at the bar whop said the downpour of rain wasn;t normal and shouldn't keep happening. It turned out to rain most of the next few days though! After staying in the nice place with a bar and pool that we booked on the internet for 2 nights, we sought a cheaper, no frills accomodation. We found a good place for 75,000 rupiah, about 4 pounds. This place was in the main tourist area of Kuta. Stuff is soooo cheap here, its great. There was a restaurant close to our guest house where you could get a T-bone steak for 22,000 rupiah (just over a pound!!!). And the Indonesian and Chinese
food was even cheaper. Needless to say we went back there a lot. Another thing that's great here is the pirate dvd's. They've got all the newest ones, movies and series. So Jay and I bought 29 dvds including new series of family guy and south park, awesome. Might have got carried away a tad buying 29 but it only cost us 6 pounds each and this way when we get to Oz we'll be entertained forever! Another thing that is a must do here is to get a massage...and there's no shortage of places for that! I got one from a gorgeous Indonesia girl and it was sooo good. I was so relaxed afterwards, I did nothing for the rest of the day.
One day we decided to go down to Kuta beach and get some surfing lessons. We met these guys down there called Johanas and Gun. We got on with them really well and did some lessons with them. They take you out for about 2 hours and if you can't stand up then its free. After that they give you the board for however time you want and you just practice on your own. It
was a pretty crazy day for me the first time surfer. The waves were relentless and the wind was blowing me all over the place but I think it was good to be thrown in at the deep end as I'm probably more confident of going again on my own now. I had such a good time doing it aswell, its such a good feeling when you catch a really good wave, like striking a ball and really knowing you've connected well, oh yeah its good! So after the lesson we talked to Johanas and he wanted to take us around the island with one of his mates so we agreed to renting a car and went the next day with him. To be honest it was a bit of a washout really. The guys ussually looked like they were lost and we didn't manage to go to many places. One place that was really cool though is a place called Monkey Jungle. It's a tourist attraction but also a place for a certain type of Hindu to come and worship. I think most of my pictures are of the monkey there, but dont let the pictures decieve you, those
monkey were vicious little shits. They're everywhere and if you have a banana or some nuts, that you can buy before you go in to feed them, and you dont give it to them right away then they go for you and jump on you till they get the food. Some of them if you get to close they'll hiss and show their teeth, scary little guys. But this place was cool, we went to the Hindu shrine and put on the robes aswell. After this we went to some pretty cool rice fields. On the walk there we met these school kids you had a small iguana which was pretty crazy to see. Apparently they caught it and were planning to eat it for dinner that night, awesome. So when we go to the rice fields it was pretty impressive, theres something about rice fields that are pretty amazing, I dont know why. And also in the distance were palm trees which added to the effect.
After grabbing some lunch we got back into the car and went to the Volcano. This is when the weather turned terrible. We were going up really high and it was like
we were driving in a cloud, you couldn't see much in front at all and with steep cliffs at every corner it was kind of worrying. And then the car messed up and we had to go to a garage for a bit. Once we finally got to the volnaco the weather was so crap you couldn't see anything which was too bad because i've seen pictures of it and it looks pretty amazing. After that we asked if we could just go back because it was getting a bit later and the weather was so shit. Johanas and Elo were cool but I think they should stick to being surf instructers and give up on the whole tour guide stuff!
One of the best thing about bali for me is the nightlife. Its amazing and the best I've ever been to I think. Drinks were so cheap and the clubs were amazing. One night they were selling beer for 7p between 10 and 12...7p! There are about 5 clubs in the main area of the lightlife that were all really cool and different. And the Indonesian girls are so beautiful, the only problem being that 9 out of
10 of them you would need to pay to spend some time with. Thats one thing I'm quite looking forward to in Oz, talking to a girl and not having to wonder if she's a prostitute or even worse a man...ya, that'll be nice. We went on 3 proper nights out and they were all so good and walking distance from everywhere.
There are so many Australians here and had some good banter with them already. A few lovely ladies called me a 'POHMY NITWIT' and had some good banter with the lads about what REAL footy is. So that's Bali I guess. We've been in Asia for over 8 months now and we fly to Oz tonight. It feels weird really, on one hand I really looking forward to Oz but on the other I dont want to leave Asia, its been amazing. But already we're looking at ways to stop off and Kuala Lampur and Bangkok on the way home so it's not too bad I guess. I definately think it will be a culture shock going back to a westeren country but I'm sure I'll adjust, will be cool. Well I better get off, I'm going
to try to get another sesh of surfing in before we have to go to the airport. Speak soon x
