Lecturer
Bronagh and I with one of the guest lecturers. Hi friends, Stephen here. Its hard to believe that we are into week five of the ten week course. Time is really flying and it seems like only yesterday when we were finishing our jobs to get ready to fly out to India. I have to say that these first five weeks have gone as well as could be expected. We are getting on well with the students and building up good relationships with them. We can see them growing in their faith which just elates us as we know the impact that the course had on us last year when we were students.
Before we left we were very conscious that we could very easily come across in a superior way to the students as this year we have a position of authority in the school and we felt we had to be very cautious of how we implemented that. Cultural differences like gender and age can often be major factors when dealing with people here but I’m glad to say that thankfully we haven’t been hindered by those things as yet.
Our main roles and responsibilities are to facilitate the running of the day to day classes
Bronagh and the girls
Bronagh with all of the female students from the class. and implement the rules of the college. We facilitate cell groups on Wednesday afternoons, games on Thursday afternoons and cleaning duties every Friday. We are also marking and grading some of the assignments and we are responsible for looking after the guest lectures (we have lecturers from India, Malaysia and Singapore).
We find it a real blessing to be in this Godly atmosphere for a few months as the rat race of life back home very quickly and very easily can take your focus off hearing what God has to say to you. It’s great to have people around you that want to see you released to use your gifts and not just let life pass you by but to make your life count for something. For me that challenge lies at home to try and motivate people into helping others who are less fortunate than we are and spreading the gospel to parts of the world that have never heard it before.
Having been to India numerous times in the past it has been great to have the freedom to have a car to drive about in ourselves. The ministry we are working with have given us
Stephen and the men
Myself with some of the men from the course. a car to use while we are here and we are getting to know our way around certain parts of the city quite well. This means we don’t have to rely on people to drive us about. It also means that we can head out by ourselves which is important to have time alone while we are here. So we decided one night to take another trip the cinema just by ourselves and yes you’ve guessed it……another exciting adventure.
We went in to buy the tickets and were confronted by a bat flying around inside the lobby!!! We then headed into the cinema where we were stopped by the doorman and told we cannot enter for another 10 minutes. Bronagh told him our seat numbers just to check if we would be sitting near the front or at the back, he told us they were at the back then immediately said ‘ok you can go in’!?! So much for waiting for ten minutes! We went in and the place was smelly and the seats were so dirty. We cautiously sat down and were sitting for no more than 2 minutes when a cockroach climbed up the arm of our chair. We jumped to our feet and debated if we should just head home again or not but we reluctantly decided to stay. A few minutes later another cockroach climbed up the wall behind us and during the film I was bitten on the foot by dear knows what and on two separate occasions I nearly wet myself when in the darkness of the cinema something started to crawl over my arm. But thankfully we got out alive and needless to say we will never be back at that place again.
Anyway, once again thank you for following along with our blog and as always thanks to all of you who are leaving us both public and private messages, we really do look forward to hearing from you and you encourage us so much even by just writing a couple of lines. It’s great to know that you are taking an interest in the work we are doing. We deeply value your prayers during our time here and thank you to everyone who is remembering us in this way.
God bless you
Stephen (& Bronagh)
P.S. Please follow the link below to see the type of traffic we are driving in. This is honestly what it is like here every day.

half way
Hi Stephen and Bronagh it is hard to believe that you are already half way through your trip. God has Blessed you both so much and I have no doubt that the blessing will continue. You pair are better than me for staying at the cinema think I would have screamed and ran out waving hands in the air and would still be screaming now. Don't do insects very well. May the LORD continue to be with you both on this trip with the power of the holy spirit developing your gifts giving you strength and wisdom. God Bless Claire
