Going Home Day Flowers The last time we posted an entry we said that we were getting close to going home time. We are now surrounded by Going Home Day Flowers blooming all over the estate. This is the name given by the children to the poinsettias which grow as trees here and are laden with lovely big bright red flowers. They get the name because their arrival indicates that the time for going home for the holidays is approaching. We have not done any travelling since last time as we have been busy trying to complete the work of the project. Now all that remains to be done is the completion of the management report which we will present to the Board in Kolkata in two weeks time. Then it’s off to Kerala for some sunshine. We are getting plenty of warm sunshine here during the day but it has turned very cold overnight and in the early morning it takes some time for the atmosphere to warm up. There is no central heating here and so we have taken to wearing extra layers to keep warm.
This past week has been quite eventful. John Hennessy from Kelso Rotary Club came out to

Ahava Guest House - Our Home from Home visit SUMI School in town and he very kindly brought a couple of warm jackets and a few other little necessities. He was on a quick inspection tour of the school where the club has provided finance for a rainwater harvesting plant and new toilets. We were invited to attend the reception which was given for John and a group from St Andrews Blackadder Church in North Berwick who also provide support for the school. SUMI stands for Scottish Universities Missionary Institution, founded by Scottish missionaries like so many other religious and educational establishments in Kalimpong. We felt privileged to be invited and enjoyed some excellent entertainment by the young people including Nepali and Tibetan dancing and music provided by the school pipe band. We had a great day. The following day John Webster, Chairman of the UK Committee arrived with a party and we joined in the activities to mark his visit. John was the farm manager and chaplain at Dr Graham’s and the highlight of the day was a visit to the farm where we were entertained to more singing and dancing by the staff who clearly hold John in great affection. Dinner on the final evening was

Otherwise we have been keeping an eye on the adventure playground project which is being funded by Denise and Helen of Foster Care Connect. We are pleased to say, Denise and Helen that the site has been cleared at last and the fabrication of the towers has started. We think that we are now making rapid progress since our friend Rajat, the contractor, has realised that we are about to leave and he needs to finish the job in order to get paid! Anyway we are now in the capable hands of Nikhil, the carpenter and his team. Watch this space for the end result.
