When I first arrived in Delhi I had no concept of how much things cost compared to back home. I wasn't sure if R100 was the normal rate for a rickshaw or if I was being taken advantage of. I learned that it all depends on what you are willing to pay and where you want to go. LOL Honestly I am only half kidding on that. But you talk to other people and you quickly learn what the going rate for things actually is.

Just to give you an idea of the actual cost of things I made a little list for you. Here is the low down on how much some of the everyday items cost.

Shampoo Packet R1.50 $0.03
(trial size)

Metro Fare R16 $0.37

Latte R65 $0.88

Beer:

King Fisher R80 $1.70

Corona R200 $4.25

Coke Bottle R35 $0.47

Travel Hairdryer R299 $6.37

1 Gb pen drive R160 $3.51

Computer Paper R50 $1.06

Mangoes (3) R100 $2.12

Pedicure R200 $4.25

PizzaHut Med Pizza R400 $8.50

McDonalds Hamburger R120 $2.55

Entrance to the Taj Mahal R750 $15.95

Laundry Service:
Trouser R20 $0.42
Blouse R10 $0.21
Jeans R25 $0.53

It is surprising how cheap it is here. Mind you not everything here is a deal, this is not an outlet store. With all of the bargaining that goes on here I'm often left wondering if I actually did get a deal or was scammed on some items. So I guess it is only fair to say "bargain hunter beware."
