Taj Mahal
A different view of the Taj Mahal at sunrise After a short bus ride I arrived in Agra, home of the Taj Mahal. Actually entering the Taj Mahal complex was pretty expensive (750 Rupes == 18 dollars) but I was eager to see it; so I decided to head down there anyways and see if I could just view it from the streets or something (I was planning on going in the next morning). I arrived at the main gate to the Taj, and start to poke around a little. I noticed a path that leaded into the woods and around the outside wall....so of course I head down there...ended up sneaking through a fence, past some sort of gaurd (who was cleaning his motorcycle) and into an area that seemed to hold plants and flowers that where used to decorate the Taj Mahal grounds. It was a pretty fun experiance, and I got to climb along the walls just outside of the Taj complex, hide from the workers, and just explore an area that most people probably dont get to see. I couldnt actually see the entire Taj, but I had good close views of the tops of the towers and what not. It always seems like more fun
Taj Mahal side view
Taj Mahal side view when your doing something your not supposed to be doing =). So I walked all the way around to the back of the Taj, which happens to border on a river (a nasty dirty river...suprise suprise). But I found some guy who had a little boat and he agreed to ferry me across (for some money of course). So I get to the other side just around sunset, snap a few pics (nothing too great though, the sunset wasnt that good, and it is not behind the Taj) and then headed back to my hotel. All in all a great experiance.
The next morning I woke up EARLY (5:15) and headed back to the Taj, I wanted to get there as early as possible so that I could get some pictures with out tons of tourists in them. The gates opened at 6 and it actually wasnt too busy, since it is so insanely hot in India right now there are not so many tourists.
The TAJ MAHAL.....I have to admit, it is pretty amazing! It is a huge white marble structure in the middle of a wasteland (not that india is a wasteland per-say, but relatively speaking,
Me and the Taj
Me and the Taj when you go from walking the streets of agra to the marble floors of the Taj Mahal...well it is a big difference). I dont know if it was the beauty of the Taj Mahal or the fact that I was actually AT the Taj Mahal, but either way, it was really moving. This, again, was one of those experiance that really reminded me of where I was.....IIIINNNDDDIIIAAAA.l
I think I took over 300 pictures, spent hours just kind of walking around. And then headed to the (other) red fort. Spend some time there, headed back to my hotel, and then caught the next bus to Jaipur.
