Life has handed me many adventures but none quite as fulfilling as the one I am about to embark on.I have found my niche and am going back for the third time to volunteer at ABC's and Rice in Siem Reap Cambodia.
ABC's and Rice is an NGO school that provides education in both English and Khmer to the poorest of the poor from the villages on the outskirts of Siem Reap. Toy Train excursion... Hi Iris ....So nice to travel with you. Found the history of the Toy Train, plus the pictures very interesting. Train is so colorful! And the scenery so striking! Reminds us of the narrow gauge White Pass Railway, built for the gold rushers, from Skagway, Alaska, into Whitehorse, Yukon. We've taken it part way, thru tunnels and up a high elevation too .... looking way back on the Tiny looking Huge Cruise ship we had just left from. Similar feel .... yet a lot shorter, and no monkeys :) How cute they are. You sure are having a trip of a lifetime! Am sure you cherish it, esp with your son. Enjoy!
toy train Hi K,
It is a tourist thing now. It is a very impractical mode of transportation, it takes 5 hrs to go 47 km, and stops at every little hamlet along the way. But a lot of India people come from other states to ride it, so it is not only for European tourists, in fact it was mostly Indians riding when we went. It's nice that this little bit of history has been preserved.
What a fun trip I did one between Silverton and Durango Colorado. Not as many tunnels and no monkeys. So glad you are able to have this time with your
son. what great memories. Inez & Herb
