Ok, yet another destination... it never ends! I'm just tired right now, you'll now why later..
So we left Delhi maybe 3 days ago (the day after my last e-mail, whever that was). Oh yeah did I mention I have no knowledge of days/dates or time anymore? We went to Jaipur which is a pretty big city too. Our bus ride was quite interesting.. We were supposed to be picked up at the guesthouse at 8pm by a taxi, which never happened. We ended up having to walk there with our backpacks. It wasn't really far but when you were expecting to be picked up and don't, you're pretty ticked off. Bus arrives at the "bus stop" (on the side of a deserted road with no lights and cow dung and god knows what on the ground - that's India, the most likely dirtiest country in the world), it's now 9 pm. We get on have seats adn not sleeper bunks, they tell us it's an 8 hour ride there (ok, no prob). Well we spent 3 hrs on the bus in Delhi, pick up other passengers and loading the bus' rooftop with about 2 meters high of boxes adn stuff.
Everyone was on the edge in the bus wondering what was going on (well the foreigners that is). Oh did I mention it's really late and everyone wants to sleep, but there's banging on the roof and extremely loud Hindi music playing in the bus? LOL, I laugh at it now but I sure was not pleased at the time. anyway we finally leave Delhi and are woken up at 3am for a pit stop by someone yelling in the bus in Hindi and the loud music...again.
Finally get to our destination at around 6 am or so. Get a room somewhere and sleep. Our rick shaw driver picks us up at 12 noon for our sightseeing, but first brings us to eat some good food (lesson learned). We then visit the city (Jaipur) it has an old part which is the Pink City, all the buildings are an old dusty pink. Visited some palaces, temples, observatory, etc. It was all very nice. Suddenly in the afternoon I start getting some abdominal cramps, which I've had many times before even in Canada ( I have no idea what causes them..but anyway) I think nothing of it 'cause Carolyn is
fine adn we both ate the same thing. Anyway no biggy i go on, but it's pretty painful. So we go back to our room and order dinner, and then just relax (WE HAD A TV!!!). We go to bed early. At 3 am I get woken up by Carolyn telling me to call Chowdry (our driver) and tell him not to pick us up at 5 am for our bus because she is really sick (traveller's .. well.. you know...don't need any details...) Well I realise that I ain't feeling too well either, it's worse now. after 2 hrs she's on the floor moaning and stuff and pale as a ghost, I'm not too strong either, but I definitely have a stronger stomach than her. i keep telling her to drink water and hydration crystals.. but she won't, can't. Anyway, it's then time to bring her to the hospital because she's way too weak and dehydrated. Get there at 6am, she's admitted right away, on IV for 15 hrs in the general ward... in India.. YIKES! Yeah well I tell you it was quite the experience. She was ok, just not strong, kinda common here with foreigners. The doctor
gave me oral meds, but no bed for me. SO I was sitting on stool next to her bed, pretty much the whole day... and the toilet... oh but dear god, not sitting though! eeew, so dirty, even for hospital! anyway we're much better now.
It finally really hit me that I was in India, in Jaipur, when I was on the rooftop of our guesthouse in the evening just looking at the view of the rooftops and mountains surrounding most of the city , when for the mosques' loudspeakers, the chanting started and the whole city was just quiet except for that. It was so surreal that I'm here. It was really amazing. So yeah, now I KNOW that I'm here, for real. It just seemed like other coutries but just different faces and surroundings. I know it sounds strange, but it just hadn't hit me 'til then.
Anyway, Pushkar in a really nice and quiet place. Very small, only 11000 population... and about a thousand tourists... but still nice.
It surrounds a holy lake, the bathing ghats. No alcohol, drugs, meat or eggs are allowed here. It's just relaxing and gorgeous. all around the city are
sand dunes. They have this huge camel fair here every year. All the buildings around the lake are white. It also has an amazing sunset when sitting by the lake. It still stinks though.. LOL The roads are so small that you're dodging cow "droppings" everywhere, since there are hundreds of cows walking the streets with you in the small town.
Our guesthouse is on the lake, with a view. Really nice little place. It's a 135 years old (the building), so it has character..very clean, white walls (rarely see that here.. they are white in other places.. underneath somewhere under the I don't knows on the walls.. blah!)
So yeah, just taking it easy for a couple of days here since we kinda need to get some strength back, but we're already doing waaaayy better. As soon as the meds came, everythign starting going away.. usually only two days it takes, but still on rehydration powder for a day, the muscles and bones are so aching because of the lack of sodium adn potassium in my body... that's what the DR said... I'll take his word for it.
That's it for now, my time is up.
Take care and more news later.

Not trying to offend anyone...
I'm sorry to "the girl from India" for offend you in anyway. But it's a shock to all your senses when you come to India for the first time and yes the roads are dirty, not all places of course, but when you're off main roads and near shantes towns... it's to be expected. Sorry for offending you, this was just my observation of that area...
