Simple Entertainment
Kids in India tend to use anything for entertainment. This fence is a swing Hello from Jodphur, where they do offer to make you a pair of jodphurs!
The bus journey from Jaisalmer was fine. There was easily twice as many people as there should’ve been on board, but hey - I did have a seat :-) This did make me feel a little guilty for some reason and so I ended up sharing it with a miniscule boy who proceeded to thank me by dropping bits of apple flesh on me.
Spending 6 hours on a bus that gets increasingly overcrowded as it bumbles towards its destination is a bit nuts by the end; and having grubby kids putting their bare grubby grub feet on you is uncool.
Got a fairly glorious double bedroom now, complete with bathroom, hot water (well luke warm), tv with Hindi cable and a balcony for 5 pound a night - woop! I even have a sofa to lie on whilst watching Spongebob on Nickelodeon in Hindi.
There is an absolutely friggin enormous fort watching over Jodphur that's sort of built out of a mountain. It is amazingly looking! Will send you a pic in a bit mum, it's oddly cheaper than texting.
Trekked
Mehrangarh Fort, Jodphur
Massive fort, way up above the Blue City up to the fort today, instead of going for the sensible rickshaw option - the views on the way made it worththe endless sweating and getting lost. At some point in time i will attempt to put some pictures on here, as words cannot do the view from the fort justice. It’s in the smack in the middle of the city which has a population of around 1 million, and yet this view is easily 25 - 30 metres above the nearest rooftop.
Few more places to visit tomorrow, a palace, a zoo and some fancy garden type things which are meant to be nice! I think I’ll wander around the manic market place in a wee bit. It’s all based around a big clock tower that looks like it's been piked from the UK and there is even the occasional English speaking person about the place! Finally, I am not the only one!
Spent yesterday evening talking and drinking a beer with an American, Nick who plans on being in Kathmandu next January. Hopefully I'll meet up with him again one day. Also oddly bumped into the german couple in the fort so may meet them sometime
Markings with a Story
Handmarks left on the wall by women before jumping on the pyre to join their husbands in death in the next couple of days. In any case, I think tonight is a good a night as any for some rooftop beer drinking - noone tell the government though, they don't like alcohol shhhhh.
Got to say, I’m disappointed noone replied to my last comment, it was a truly horrendous smell.
Well, better go check out the market place, bye!
PS, meatfans (but not meatspin fans), I had chicken last night. It was so rough, that i decided not to eat meat here again.
PPS, I had a mutton burger with a fried egg for dinner today. The not eating meat thing lasted an honorable 12 hours, I guess I'm not meant to be a vegetarian after all.
Quote from the road:
“There wasn’t a brush for the bog though and so after I was there for 4 days I just kept the lid down. It looked like the apocalypse."
