Today was an early day up at our hotel. The hotels here have been great so far. (Though the last night was kind of rough with several trips to the bathroom.....Delhi Belly has set in). It was a good bus ride through the countryside to see things outside the cities but the highway system sure seems terrible. And I mean terrible!! The roads are really really bad shape. There are sooo many ruts and bumps in the roads that you often wonder how the cars and trucks survive a day's drive. But then you look at them and it all makes sense....they are also in really bad shape.
We arrived at our heritage hotel around 4 or so and had a relaxing afternoon to walk around the town of 10000 or so. Who knew there were places in a country like India that were this small. The small villages here remind me of the ones back in Southern Ontario only with many more people thrown in. Here you get the kids running here there and everywhere and then the cows that just seem to wonder anywhere and rule the roads. You get the old people just sitting on their stoops
chatting and the the younger ones trying to sell day to day items from their houses as well. A lot of houses have shops that seem to open up in the late afternoon/evening and sell things from chewing tobacco to chips and even housewares.
On our stroll we would come across kids playing in the street and they would come up to us and ask for their picture taken. It was a huge change from in the cities where the kids would ask for something or beg for money. Our guide has explained to us that the begging has come from outsiders like us coming to India and giving the kids things like candy or money when they ask for it. They then become accustomed to getting something like that when they ask. Where kids in the villages have not been brought up to know that they are to get something when you take their picture or even to ask for something in return. It was pretty good to just see the smiles on their faces ahe see how happy they are, just as they are. I would take their pictures and they would all rush over to see
themselves on the screen....kind of reminded me of my nieces years ago when they were younger.
The heritage hotel we are staying at has a fort attached to it. Theses structures are spectacular and all have their own history attached to them. Each room has a meaning of some sort and is quite unique. They have done a great job in adapting them to become a hotel...even in adding bathrooms and other ammenities yet still retain the heritage feel.
Before dinner we were treated to a camel cart ride out into the desert to watch the sunset. That was cool! Sunset in the hills overlooking the land stretching oIt into India. Amazing!! This is ones hinge tat I will remeber the most. The sunset was very cool. We had chai up on the hill and the returned down to the hotel for dinner. On a walk around the property after dinner you could see thousands of stars.....reminded me of the camping trips back home.
In all a greats day!!!
