Slept well - was great. Didn't get up until about 9.30 to take washing down then had some tea and toast. Spent about 2 hours on the net not getting much done. The PC I was on crashed, the next one didn't have a CD drive, went back to original, crashed again, then another was free so went on that and was much better. Put more pics on Bebo then the next lot were going on as picture icons. After about four attempts, sitting uploading, I gave up, mostly because Firefox stopped working. I did however reply to Gem and put the pics we had on CD onto my USB along with the ones I've taken since. Still to reply to mum. Sarah wrote a whole massive group email then lost it all when she tried to put on an attachment.
After all the email frustrations Sarah chilled outside and I had a shower and hand washed some stuff before joining her. Had a nice ice tea, some lunch, and wrote post cards now that mum had emailed me the addresses I needed. Sat for a bit then decided should leave the hotel.
Got an auto to City Palace
and on the way the driver said he'd take us all day for Rs100 which seemed good, especially since City Palace was closed as we got there after 3pm as closed early I think to begin preparations for Diwali. So we had to move on already. We went to the water palace, Jal Mahal. Here we bumped into Peter and Susan then the four of us all went to a textile factory where me and Sarah spent too much - but got lovely bedding for our parents. Really nice high quality silk that they were going to alter into a duvet cover and send to the hotel.
Our next stop was the monkey temple know as Galta - temple of the sun god. It is high up and overlooks the whole city and was a great spot to watch the sun setting. Met a lovely family at the top that were on holiday from Kolkata. Fed the monkeys on the way back down or good luck (or a way to sell tourist monkey nuts). Had one extremely persistent kid that had followed us half way up and followed us back down again then even clung on to the side
Family photo
The lovely family on holiday from Kolkata were the only others up there of the auto. The driver ended up giving him Rs5 for some biscuits, taking pity on him, he said, as he has a son about the same age.
Peter and Susan headed back while we went a paper shop we had been in yesterday called The Friends (http://thefriendsindia.com/) that sells some lovely hand made paper products and gifts. Got two lovely scrap book/photo albums and some cute cards and scrolls. From there we just picked up a few essentials at a chemist then went back to the hotel.
Had a nice evening sitting outside with the rest of the group - had some excellent chicken tikka! Our package from factory arrived towards the end and we went off to attempt to fit stuff in our bags. Will maybe need to pick up a bag if get any more. Managed to squeeze - very tightly - everything in with us both carrying 1 extra small shopping bag - provided can fit in PJ's and sleep sheet in the morning!
General thoughts for today
*great having a free day to do our own thing
*spent bit much but really very nice stuff and still a lot cheaper than
Hanuman
The monkey deity would pay at home
*need to eat more tikka
*Sarah gave me a nice peacock feather at lunchtime
