Buddhism is the religion that follows the teachings of Siddhartha Gautama, aka Buddha. Buddha lived and began his teachings in the eastern parts of India. He taught his followers the elimination of suffering by teaching them to trade ignorance and desire for knowledge an peace. It continued to grow and expand throughout the world being noticed by any people in many cultures By the late Middle Ages, however, Buddhism had gone virtually extinct in India. Although buddhism continued to expand around the world, its influence to the Indian people was no longer expanding. Fortunately, the expansion is now gaining influence again.
