Just chilling with Gandhi
Just chilling with Gandhi Hello Friends! So we got the train from Goa to Mumbai and got to a hotel we saw in our lonely planet guide because it was quite late, its was like in some sort of ghetto!!! The next day we woke up and went to the cheapest place in Mumbai, the Salvation Army Hostel!Oh my god that was a mistake! The nights sleep was the most horrible i've ever had, all night just dripping of sweat, people snoring, arguing, must have got about 1 hours sleep!not worth the money we saved ha!
The day before we got 'spotted' by some people asking us if we wanted to be extras in a bollywood movie. We heard about these people from other travelers so we thought we would give it a go. So the day we woke us from our sleepless night we went and met the people to do the bollywood thing. After a long bus ride we got to the set, the got us changed a couple times each in these suits, and I looked like a proper gangster ha! We off to the set and the scene was a fashion shoot and we must have been western businessmen or something,
so we were in the audience! It lasted all day and was really hot in there but it was a cool experience and hopefully we'll be able to check out the movie when we get back and look for us!also met some cool people, sat next to a girl named ashavin, she loved to talk ha!it was good though because it would have been quite boring if she hadn't been chatting all the time! O ya and the stars of the show were stunning, wow ha! Plus thet gave us 500 rupees for our hard work! Needless to say when we got back that night we grabbed our bags and ran out of that hostel and back to the first one we stayed in!
Next day we to a travel agents to pick up our train tickets. When we booked the tickets, there was a guy who said he would take us in his taxi around ALL the sights to see in Mumbai, so we took him up on that! It was really good, saw Chowpatty beach although it wasnt a very nice day so that wasn't all that good! saw marine drive, where all the Bollywood stars stay, we
saw a few temple that were really nice! One temple had some really crazy rules which I took a picture of, one rule being that women on their period could not enter, nice!We went to Mani Bhavan which is where Mahatma Gandhi would stay when he was in Mumbai, which is now a museum dedicated to his life and it also has his bedroom which is apparently untouched, that was pretty amazing!Another place we went to was 'Dhobi ghat' a place where all the clothes in Mumbai are sent to be washed, it may not sound all that good as a sigh to see and we thought that as well when we heard about it, but it really was cool and got some good pics!Among other places he took us to this tailors to look at the suits, (which he probably got a cut if we bought a suit) and we went in there only to make him happy but then we saw these traditional Indian clothes, they were really nice and only like 535 rupees. We tryed them on and though 'screw it', its like 6 pounds, could get a primark t-shirt for that ha! so we bought them!
cant wait to wear them, I think Im going to wear it around india then give it to poor man before I got...its not like im going to wear it anywhere else and its always good for karma points ha!
I've pretty much went through all the good things in Mumbai, there were a lot of things that really pissed us off aswell, ALWAYS people trying to scam you or take your money somehow! For example, on the last day we had to check out our hotel but the place we booked our taxi with said we could leave our bags there and they would look after them till we got back!when we were walking around we saw the guy in the street that was sopose to be looking after our bags!he assured us they were safe though, when we got back, he wanted money because he said he didnt steal anything!!!he wanted money for being a decent human being, he wasn't even looking after our stuff!!!we didnt give him anything! but its better not to dwell on the bead stuff to I won't! we were quite happy to leave Mumbai though and after a very a very interesting and
testing 21 hour train jouney, where jay got slapped by, we are in Pushkar now!Havn't explored yet but seems like a very nice quiet place, and very cheap which makes us happy! Will get some pics on really soon hopefully! speak soon x
