It was pitch black, and very cold when we crept down from the hotel – 6 o’clock and everywhere mainly deserted apart from little bonfires lit all through the town – dual purpose – both to clean up the rubbish and to warm cold hands. The chai sellers were doing brisk business.
We noticed in Udaipur that the city was so much cleaner than Delhi, Agra and Jaipur. It’s not so much ‘clean’ as opposed to ‘dirty’, but the vast amount of used plastic left lying about everywhere – bottles, bags and packaging – some new, some old, all colours, all sizes, discarded and left to rot – but rot it does not. Nobody seems to notice or mind. However, in Udaipur the tourist industry is very important to them– there are lots of new large hotels being built, and the tourists do not like to see tons of plastic detritus. So a consortium of local traders imposed a simple but clever fining system. If any litter is found in front of a shop, factory, warehouse or home, then the owner of that property will be heavily fined whether or not it is their own litter. – a big incentive to clear it up. The cows, dogs and donkeys no longer wander in and out the busy traffic scavenging for tasty morsels.
We didn’t go into Mumbai – just a change of aeroplane to take us to Kochi. We sat in the airport sari-spotting for a couple of hours – what an array of styles and colour. Mumbai – the Gateway to India

C’était toujours nuit quand nous avons commencé notre journée à 06.00 heures et froid. Les températures descendent très vite quand le soleil dort. Pas beaucoup des gens en ville, mais partout des petits feus – deux raisons – pour bruler le détruis et aussi pour chauffer les mains. Les vendeurs du chai (thé) sont partout.
Nous avons remarqué que Udaipur est une ville très propre (pas comme Delhi, Aga et Jaipur ou il y en a plein de plastique par terre partout – des bouteilles, des sacs, des emballages – tous les couleurs, ancien, nouveau, tous jeter). Udaipur a beaucoup des touristes et il y a tellement des nouvelles constructions des grands hôtels de luxe. Les touristes n’aiment pas voir les déchets dans les rues en centre ville. Par conséquence, un groupe des commerçants a introduit une solution très simple. Si des déchets sont trouvées devant un magasin, entrepôt, usine, maison (n’importe), le propriétaire doit payer une amande importante, même que ce n’était pas lui qui a jeter les déchets. Par conséquence, les propriétaires faisant attention et les rues sont propres – en plus les vaches, chiens et ânes cherchent la nourriture ne sont plus dans les rues.
Nous avons passé quelques heures dans l’aéroport de Mumbai – le portail de l’Inde.

Next aeroplane Mumbai to Cochin. Wow – what a difference. From Udaipur to Cochin a difference of 30°c ! It was 4 degrees this morning and 34 degrees this afternoon !
We’ve just arrived at the hotel – wifi not working but hopefully will be by the time we have finished dinner. As Cochin is on the coast, we are looking forward to some fish, prawns, and calamari. We have already passed en route handcarts selling fresh fish, so signs are promising.
No photos today – all aeroplane interiors look the same – though some doors are better than others.
Quizzes. Quiz N°1 - there were three creatures – a squirrel, a horse and a crow sitting on said horse. Quiz N° 2 – the Tree Quiz – We believe it is a bignonia – and how beautifully it has been trained - but can someone check please?

Nous somme juste arrivées a notre hôtel – le wifi ne marche pas mais, croix doigts, après diner ce soir tout bien. Comme Cochin est au bord du mer, nous avons envie de manger des poissons, langoustines, gambas, calamari ….
