It's about time I sent an update on life in Hong Kong. I can't believe I've been here another six months already, with nice trips to Australia and Cambodia in between! I came back in January with a contract until July, and here I am in July, time having gone by far too quickly, so I have signed on for another year at the kindergarten where I work!
The last six months have seen me move into a new place, and enjoying a different kind of Hong Kong lifestyle. I've enjoyed being back at school with good kids in my classes. I've joined the gym which is fantastic - they have a DVD library and personal DVD players on the machines, and even provide me with kit so I don't have to carry it round. I've been doing lots of great classes there, and I've been out and about adventuring once more and keeping myself busy as usual!
So, here's a snapshot of what I have been up to...
One recent Monday I went to Sai Kung with a friend after work and swam in the sea before dark, then I had a picnic on the beach with
a glass of bubbly - it was a great way to start the working week! It's been so hot here recently and it just doesn't get cooler in the evenings. We've been enjoying some unusual bright blue sky & sunny days too! I've been able to spend a few nice days at the beach!
Party on the beach was something different - nice and casual, and it was nice to be out with the same crowd, but just somewhere different, partying with the sand in our toes instead of high heels hurting our toes!
Believe it or not, we had a kindergarten graduation ceremony at which I was the presenter on stage. The children from different classes all perform on stage to celebrate finishing kindergarten - they had been rehearsing for months!!
The world cup was quite inconvenient at times - matches were on at 10pm (reasonable) around midnight (manageable) or at 02.30 in the morning (hard!) However, I did have fun watching the England games with my fellow countrymen. Quite the opposite happened for one England match where I just stopped by a mall to catch the second half, and I was probably the only westerner
in the place, yet I felt I had the support of the Hong Kong population - they were all shouting in Cantonese around me as I was egging on Gerrard myself - I found it quite amusing!! An alternative viewing experience!
Other goings on include junk boats, a good friend came to visit, a day trip to Lamma island on a much appreciated public holiday, ballet classes I've started taking on a Monday, a Michael Jackson dance workshop I did recently, cycling in the new territories, and hiking around the new territories. It's always nice to get out into the green countryside of Hong Kong.
All in all it has been a positive, busy, fulfilling and fun six months! Looking forward to more of the same when I return in a months time...the beauty of school holidays!
Next I am off to China (and later Australia)...more blogging soon I promise!
