b]Day 7
Friday brought a day of sunshine so we set off for Kowloon Park. It was a little pocket of calm in the district. We spent the whole day there as it was cooler than the city. We wandered through the pretty gardens stopping at the aviary and pond where there were flamingos, swans, terrapins and ducks.
We just chilled later with some wine with Candice and Damien as it was our last evening with them. Have loved stayin with them they have been a great help to us to ease us into the the first stage of our travels.
Day 8 After spending the morning packing we then endured a horrendous test of strength, endurance and will to get our our hotel carrying our 40 tonn backpacks. Around 10 rest stops, two trains, a hell of a walk and two hours later we arrived at North Point totally knackered.
We got ready for Candice's dance school show "Once upon a time in Shanghai" We met Matt and George at Bar George for a drink before heading to th Perfoming Arts Theatre in Wan Chai. The show was fabulous and the kids were amazing, Candice done a great job.
We all headed out after to Mes Amis for a few too many.
Day 9 Sunday we headed to Repulse Bay to see Jen's family friend Jacqui who lives there. We got off the bus at the beach the views were amazing of all the islands and the weather was roasting. We wandered along the shore with our feet in the water until we to find some shade. When we got to Jacqui's we had a blether and some wine down by the pool - this is the life! We had a lovely dinner with Jacqui and the boys before heading back to the hotel.
Day 10 Got up super early for our day at Ocean Park. It was another roasting day. It was amazing with dolphin shows, massive crazy fish and loads of rides. We saw the Chinese Sturgeons which were given to Hong Kong from the mainland representing the 5 olympic rings. That night we had food at the Hotel, 4 courses for about 7 GBP each, not bad eh?!
Day 11 The plan was to find an internet cafe and watch the Symphony of Lights from Kowloon we found a fab wee internet
cafe near the Star Ferry Pier. After searching the streets for "Cheap" places to eat (as recommeded by some prat writing a travel guide) with no avail we gave into to the hunger and ended up at The Hard Rock Cafe, not exactly buget but had tidy fajitas - which made it all worthwhile. That's when Jacqui called to say the Typhoon warning had been raised to a 4 and we should head back incase transport stopped as the Tropical Storm that just devasted the Phillipinees was due to hit us at approx 11pm. Which basically means there could be a lot of wind and rain - the chinese get quite cautious with the weather warnings! With slight panic, we quickly scurred our way back collecting only essentail supplies - vodka and diet coke to wade out the storm. Postcards were written and cards were played drunkingly. We had hoped to see some serious weather action but not a lot happened before we crashed out.
Day 12 With a slight hangover we ventured out into the stormy conditions. we headed for the Science and Space museums as they are free on wednesdays. It wasn't the most exciting place but
kept us out of the rain for a while as Typhoon Fengsheun was about 20 kilometres off the coast of HK. Later we went to the cinema to see Narnia 2 the only thing showing really. Feeling adventurous we opted for a snack of Shao Mai. Which was rank. Like soft stinking dumplings with fish crunchy parts inside. Braw. We did we tried we failed, bring on McDonalds.
Day 13 Visited the Goldfish market, The Flower market and the Bird market. A whole lotta markets. Pretty self explanatory. Bad smells also featured throughout the day. We also visited the Golden Bauhinia Square where the sculpure of the same name is located. This marks the most significant moment in HK's history - the return of HK to the People's Republic of China.
Ladies night again! Jen, me, Candice, Sharon and George again set out to take advantage of the free drinks. A wild night was to follow, singing dancing falling and crawling.
Day 14 You can imagine what happened this day.
Day 15 As Jacqui had kindly offered to put us up at her home for the remainder of our stay in HK we trotted off again with
Jen and Hollie
A lottle more drunk our backpacks. This time minus the Birkenstock sandals which had been ripping both of our feet to shreds. Simple bus journey to Repulse bay then we headed for a stroll along Stanley Market. Nice little market and lots of nice cafes on the waterfront. We also saw Murray House and the Maritime Museum.
