Walking the streets with some of the girls... Hello, hello,
I am alive, just living the routine of having a real job Monday to Friday, it is odd, it has never happened before. On the weekend of Remembrance Day, the Seoul Sisters (the rugby team I have joined here) went to Hong Kong to play against their National team. I wasn't gonna miss out on that!!! Travellling Asia is exactly why I have come here. So the weeks leading up to the trip went by fast as I had something to look forward to.
Let me start the recap on Friday, at lunch, as it needs mentioning. Friday is International Food day at school so Kitchen Lady (apparently her and Cleaning Lady do not have names, they have been introduced like that to me. Hopefully they resume their identities at the end of the day!) tries to make various things. All are eaten with chopsticks, of course so it makes things interesting. Like the day we had steak. Or the HK Friday when we had spaghetti. But the best part was smoked salmon on lettuce with a smudge of peanut butter!!! Yes, peanut butter! I didn't complain, as I love both of those things but they really are
Junk boat
Here I am on the junk boat in Hong Kong wearing my tour toy! not meant to go together, I still wonder what country she was trying to replicate there.
Anyways, I am supposed to talk about HK... so I managed to convince my boss to let me leave 15 minutes early and one of the Korean teachers, Lindsey, offered to drive me to the airport. Our flight was leaving at 19h45. It was a bit tight but I made it. There was about 18 of us flying on Friday night and I wasn't the last one! Close though! We were given our tour toys (cowboy hats). The later you got to the airport, the uglier they got, however, I was happy with my bright shiny pink one! We were to have them on our person at all times, sweet! The flight was great, just try to picture a crew of rugby players on a 3-hour flight with free alcohol! By the time we assembled the troops at the airport and made it to our hostel, it was past midnight, so time to go out! We were not there to sleep.
Three of us left early, I must have been in bed by 4h00, some of the girls came back to the
Junk boat
On our way to the junk boat hostel around 8h00. On Saturday morning, we had a Junk Boat reserved for the day. Basically, it cost us about 80$/person for all-u-can-eat and all-u-can-drink all day on a boat. I was surprised at how gorgeous the water and the lanscape were. We jumped off the boat and went swimming in the aqua blue water countless times, we played touch rugby on a beautiful beach only accessible by boat, we ate steak, salmon, falafels, and much more...FUN TIMES! Definitely the highlight of the weekend!
Saturday night was a quiet night as we were all pooped from the bad combination of sun and alcohol all day.
Sunday morning, 8h30 kickoff, Seoul Sisters vs Hong Kong National team. Getting up at 6h30 was murder, no other way to describe it! The game was fun, the HK team was tiny and it was hard to determine who played what position. They were well drilled though and fit. (They have just finished 2nd behind China at the Asian Women's 15s Tournament so they're not bad). It was 5-5 at the half, we didn't play so well. A few injuries occurred during the first half and the remnants of the weekend started coming out.

Ah! The beach! Final score: 29-5. Player of the match: me. Dunno how that happened since I thought it was the worst game I had ever played. The HK team took us out for breakfast after the game. I was hoping for Dim Sum but we got croissants and scrambled eggs. Uhm...I just realized I didn't have Chinese food even once, oh well. I am planning on going back for HK 7s at the end of March.
The rest of the day consisted of an early check-in at the smartest airport ever! In the middle of the city, you can go to a train terminal, check-in for your flight, buy your train ticket and come back like 45 min-1 hour before your flight. Smart! The group dissolved, all the Kiwis went back to the beach, about 8 of us went to a giant market by the seaside and had some lunch before shopping. A random Seoul businessman paid for all of our lunches...awsome, more shopping money. I get bored of shopping quickly and I was not exactly rich so some of us headed to a spa for a full-body massage and some relaxation at the end of a crazy weekend. We couldn't
HK
Busy, neon-lit street, very Asian leave without checking out HK at night from the harbour, thus we took the subway and a Star Ferry and checked out the view on our way back to the train terminal. Quite impressive!
An awsome weekend came to an end! The lack of sleep and an overloaded schedule contributed to a feeling like we were there for at least a week. The flight back was uneventful, we all passed out! I even almost missed the food, it has never happened before. By the time I took th ebus home and got to my apartment, it was 6h45 on Monday morning, works starts at 9h45....long week ahead!
But of course I survived since I am here writing to you. Sorry about the novel, the weekend was so awsome that it needed to be detailed thoroughly. And I left some, no worries.
Until next time,
Marie-Eve
