I thought it would be nice to tell you a bit more about my work, seen as that is where I spent a lot of my time in HK, so here goes - an average (if there is one!) day at my Primary School in Sha Tin!
I generally set my alarm for 06.45 and hit snooze! Then once I am out of the door I catch the 7.45 bus from across Nathan road to Sha Tin City One. Once I clock in, I head up to the 3rd floor where the staff room is, and prepare for the day!
My classroom is on the 6th floor, so I go up there to organise my classroom and set up the chairs, and gather my resources.
My first lesson is usually 09.05 and each lesson is 35 minutes long. On average there are about 12 students, so it is a nice size. Students range from 5 to 12, some cute, some a bit of a handful, others too grown up for primary school! I work with two guys, Jake and Ben, on the same programme as me, and so we each have a third of the class.

Looking down a school corridor
There are 6 floors of the school (and no lift) vary, and there are good classes and bad classes! The majority of the time I am in the classroom on my own, so when there is a local teacher there as well, they are even better behaved! They are all quite good on the whole though. I only have to do the 'angry teacher bit' occasionally!
The aim of my lessons is to encourage the students to speak English, so my colleagues and I try to create games and activities that involve speaking in some way. That way, they have to speak to play the game, and they all want to play!
I have between four and six lessons a day, and at recess and lunchtime I go down to the playground to chat to students and play games with them. Lunch is at 12.30, and all the students sit in their classrooms with rice and veg/meat usually. They either have a hot school lunch that is delivered each day, or their helper delivers their lunch top them at 12.30. My colleagues and I have ours in the staff room (which is more of an office really).
On Tuesdays Jake, Ben and I hold the English Ambassador
Team meeting after school, which is a group of students who want to promote English in school, and they are usually very keen and over-excited on a Tuesday afternoon, unlike myself, Jake and Ben! We play games with them, and do quizzes etc. They enjoy it. They recently helped us at our English funfairs on English Day and did a great job.
At 3 O'clock (3.30 on a Friday) the students leave and we (my colleagues and I) head down to the playground for the 'goodbye chat'. Once they have all left, we finish the day with whatever needs to be done, and clock out at 3.45.
In amongst that I spend a lot of the day saying hello and smiling at a lot of kids as we pass on the stairs and in the corridors!
We have just published a school newsletter in English as well, the first of its kind at school, so that is good!
So there is a short run down of what I have been getting up to!
