I thought it had been a while since my last entry, and glancing back at my diary…I’ve been quite busy! Things just haven’t stopped here! Here’s a rundown on the events of the last ten days or so!
I have been to a Korean BBQ with two friends from uni. This was pretty cool, where you sit round a table with a flame/grill in the middle, and you collect raw meats/fish/vegetables, and rice/soup, and you chat away whilst you cook whatever you fancy eating next.
I have found a good swimming pool in Kowloon park, which is a lovely place, and there is an outdoor pool for sunny days. We had a girly night at the cinema too - to see Hairspray, which was interesting! This is all mid-week stuff seeing as I am now working and rising early! Friday night has no guilt of having to work the next day though, so I had a good night out in Wan Chai with a uni friend and a whole bunch of colleagues.
Sunday was a mammoth tourist day - my friend from home, Vicki (very random how suddenly people I know are in HK!) came to visit before
The MTR
Hong Kong's answer to the Underground...and it beats it hands down....air conditioned, clean, efficient! further travels, and so we crammed a lot in so she could see as much as possible. We saw the golden bauhinia in Wan Chai, which is to mark the handover of HK to China. A highlight was the Big Buddha statue on Lantau Island (Ngong Ping), weighing 202 tonnes. We visited a traditional tea house, and went up the Peak again, finishing with a drink in Lan Kwai Fong. A fun but exhausting day of tourism!
Since I last wrote…I have acquired a fridge! I realise this may sound very mundane, and not at all newsworthy…but I am happy about it! HK is too warm to not have a fridge! There is a great website where expats sell/give away stuff, and you just have to collect it, so we got a fridge for $500HKD! It came from an apartment on the 4th floor , with no lift, but it was worth the effort. It was funny actually - Marie and I had to carry our fridge down the back of the market and as you can imagine, got some funny looks! We live on the market, so taxis can’t stop outside when the market is running!

They don't do subtle advertising! am now into lessons proper at school, and doing an introductory lesson with everyone this week and so far it is good! Except for 1D - now they are a handful!! The kids are very sweet, and want to play games in recess. They are also quite intrigued by these 3 foreigners in their school - one of the boys asked me today why I didn’t have white hair. Some others are very keen it’s cute….”Miss Jen, my cousin has a dog” “Miss Jen, I don’t have any pets” - that was the younger students wanting a sticker!
