Or trolley, as we non-locals call it.
I arrived Tuesday night on the last bus from Guangzhou, had dinner, and then went to bed early.

Today, I awoke early, feeling refreshed. I got an early start out the door to run a few errands before meeting my friend for lunch at noon. We went up to the mid-levels to my favorite taco restaurant.

We looked at the sky, decided it looked like rain, and went to the movies and hated it. It's rare that I hate a movie, but this was one of those times. The only reason we didn't walk out was because we kept hoping there'd be some character or plot development and the whole thing would come together in a genius way at the end. No luck.

We took the trolleys, or "ting tings" as they're called locally for a ride through Central and over to Wan Chai. I've been meaning to ride on one for years, but wasn't sure where they went and never quite seemed to have the time. We were fortunate enough to ride in one of the older ones, which my friend says have a bit more character. We managed to get seats on the upper level next

to the back windows. It was fun to be able to look out and see the car behind us get really close at stop lights, and to realize we could probably put our hand out and touch hands with people in the car behind us. It was a fun way to see part of the city.

We went up to the mid-levels to meet some friends for drinks. My timing was lucky because they were getting ready to leave town the next day (taking advantage of the holiday). We mostly caught up and talked about life as American ex-pats living in HK and China and how things have changed over the years. It was interesting to hear about their perceptions and my friend's perceptions (he's a Hong Konger) and contrast them with my own. Ever more interesting was how much we agreed on some things. It's amazing how things change and still stay the same.

We were fortunate enough to get one of the older ones. Much cooler to ride in.
