Hong Kong Day 1 & 2 001Hong Kong Day 1 & 2 001Hong Kong Day 1 & 2 001

Room with a View!
Hello

We got up at 4 in the morning on Friday and left Xi'an. We got a taxi to the airport, then a plane to Guanghzou Airport then a taxi to Guanghzou East Train station, then a train to Hong Kong, then taxi to hotel!! It really was planes, trains and automobiles!!

We arrived in HK about 15.00 and it felt much hotter than China. it must be about 32-34 'C and doesn't let up at night, however the air is alot less polluted. We settled into our hotel, had a shower then took a wander about. We went to Pizza Express for dinner, it is totally western here a million miles from what China was like, pretty much everyone speaks English and it has all the chain restaurants we have back home.

On Saturday morning we got the Peak Tram up Victoria Peak, which is a must for all visiting Hong Kong. It sits at 1,800 ft and has spectacular views of Hong Kong it also has a few good walks to do as well.

We took the tram back down the peak and got a bus to the Star Ferry and crossed the harbour to

Kowloon. In Kowloon we went to the Space Museum (it has a real astronaut suit and the console from the Mercury Space Capsule - sweet!) We had a walk along the shopping district then went to Kowloon Park (which has Pink Flamingos??) We decided to try something cantonese for dinner so went into this Macau (an island nearby that used to be a colony of Portugal) restaurant that was cheap as chips and full of locals. English was hardly spoken but it felt nice and less touristy.

Later on we watched the Symphony of Lights. You stand on Kowloon side and music plays and the building on the opposite side of the harbour light up and put on a light show. Impressive. We had booked tickets to the Omnimax cinema at the Space Museum earlier so went to watch a movie about dinosaurs. It was excellent, the cinema was a big dome and the movie was played pretty much above, in front and to the side, you have to lie back to watch it. We then took the Star Ferry back to hotel.

The next day we went to another Budha Temple then the Botanical and Zoological Gardens (which had lots of monkeys). We then got the ferry to Lantau Island then went to see Po Lin Buddha - the biggest outdoor setted bronze buddha in Asia. We got back to hotel, Anne went for a swim in the pool and I chilled.

Another day left in Hong Kong, it is really good - so hot though. Think we take it easy tomorrow then we are heading to Bangkok on Tuesday.

Hope all is well

Russ and Anne xxx
