Hey everyone,
It's nearly Christmas!! Wohoo!! I've been meaning to write for a while but just haven't found the time! Not because I'm having too much fun but just generally busy with work (although some fun was had this weekend - a little too much I might add, one example being I tried to pay for drinks on Friday with my Toys'R'us card... long story). Getting quite excited about upcoming birthday and Christmas - only because it's an excuse to spend some dollars on meself! Gave myself my birthday present already - an NDS Lite(hand held Nintendo game for all of you not cool enough!) and drumming lessons for Crimbo! By next year I'm hoping to be able to play both at the same time! Ha!
I've now been to Macau twice, the first time to meet my cousin and his wife who live there. I had only met Nuno once before and he's quite a lot older than me (in his 60's) but they both received me with open arms and were extremely kind showing me around. They also bought lunch (saweeeet) 😊 Macau is nice and I felt extremely dissapointed in knowing that no one speaks Portuguese
there but all the signs are, by law, written in both Chinese and Portuguese. There were a few Portuguese people hanging around in Macau and that was exciting to see... it's like seeing an endangered species! The second time I went was with Elizabeth and we founf this small Portuguese restaurant owned by Portuguese speaking Chinese which I thought was extremely cool! So we tipped them! Ha! It takes an hour to get to Macau on the ferry and I recommend it to anyone who comes to HK. It's quaint and cute!
Not writing too much on the blog as I have so many photos that can speak for themselves, but I'm enjoying HK so far. This past week especially. I met up with a girl who plays in a couple of bands here and it was great to meet someone who is into the same type of music as me. She was really sweet and we got on quite well (she's into the same ideas as me on recycling and asian boys!). She told me about a gig playing on Friday so I went and it reminded me of the Barfly back in Liverpool and the countless times
Macau
Tiles I spent there while I was still at uni. It's great to see a decent music scene here as it's quite lacking in Asia, so the local bands put in so much effort here. And it's also more genuine than the UK because they're not trying to be famous, they are just trying to get more live music out to people here. It's a real 'I do this outside of work because of my passion for music' and not the I want to be famous drive. The gig did follow some ridiculous behaviour on my behalf but hey it was fun and we met some people, which changed my opinion slightly of how difficult it is to meet people in HK. You just have to drink and then its easy... (same as in the rest of the world i guess!).
I'm not returning to Vietnam for Christmas and unfortunately all the flights are booked to return home so Christmas it is in Hong Kong! Not many people are staying here but hey I'll survive. I've really had a lot of time to think about stuff in general since living on my own and as much as I really
Macau
These trees are typical of South East Asia and the lampost is very European like. I like the mix. believe christmas is a family event on the calendar and is a time to reflect on the year, on what we have and don't have and on emotional ties, I keep reminding myself that there will be people in worse situations this Christmas than I will be, even if I spend Christmas alone. It is hard to be so far away from people who also value Christmas as such an important event, especially when my birthday is also around that time, but there really are people who won't even have a home to go to. I'm thinking of spending christmas day with a charitable organisation giving away food or something... helping others and keeping myself entertained - sorted!!!
So those are the news.. check out the pictures and let me know what you think. I also have a My Space profile up so for those of you who have one add me as a friend (if I know you - if I don't please send me a message first) and if you don't have one, why not get one!? www.myspace.com/roojinha
Take care everyone,
Love you all and especially during the festive season, miss you all too,
Macau
