Business Lounge
Kevin, Megan and Sophie keeping busy in the Business Lounge while waiting for our flight TUES 20th -
It seems like it was a long time coming but we have finally begun our adventure on the other side of the world.....China. After months and months of being on an emotional rollercoaster involving many contract changes, visa problems and delays of every kind we packed up all our belongings and left our lovely home in Shrewsbury, MA to head east.
Even though we had just shipped a lot of our clothes and other items we would need, we still managed to fill another 7 suitcases. Getting them into the car was great fun and lugging them into the airport was an adventure in itself, but we did it!!!! Of course on top of all that we had to carry 3 laptop bags, 2 backpacks for the kids and not forgetting the girls American Girl Dolls. .... How did we end up with so much stuff.............
WED/THURS 21st & 22nd
We flew direct from JFK to Hong Kong with Cathay Pacific. I was not looking forward t a 16 hr flight with the girls but thank god for Business Class. It turned out to be the easiest flight we have every taken with
Amazement
Megan is excited by her TV on the flight the girls. They could watch any movie they wanted (and they did!!!!), if they wanted to sleep they could lie down flat, and of course they got waited on 24/7. That was actually my favorite part too... at the press of a button I could have any of my needs met. When does that ever happen!!!!!
Sophie performed her usual travelling ritual at Hong Kong Aiport and threw up in the security line to go to our next flight so we smiled a lot , cleaned her up and kept on walking!!
Finally after nearly 24 hrs of travelling we made it to Hangzhou, China to start this big adventure of ours. We checked in to the Hyatt and went to bed.
FRIDAY 23rd
The day to move into our "home away from home" has arrived. Vivienne (our relocation help) picked us up and once again we tried to squeeze all our luggage into another car (this would be the last time for a while thankfully!). The aprtment looked great. The Landlady had bought new furniture for us and we were very grateful that it was very tasteful stuff. We were going to like it here.
Decorations
Chinese New Year Decorations in Hotel She had even installed Satellite TV so would you believe we move half way around the world and the kids can still watch SpongeBob and many more!!!! It's actually going to be a lifesaver!!
Once everything was signed and keys exchanged hands we took a trip to the HIS international school so Megan and Sophie could meet their teachers and class before starting on Feb 2nd. It went very well although it was torture for Megan having to try on a school uniform. It doesn't fit into her fashionable lifestyle apparently!!! I didn't realize she was such a fashion queen!!!!!!
The supermarket was an experience. Think of the busiest time you have ever been to the supermarket and multiply it by 10. No kidding, I think all of Hangzhou was in Carrefour . Of course we picked the worst time to go cause it is Chinese New Year in a couple of days and so everone was stocking up for the celebration. We battled to get some essential electrical items (namely a tea kettle for me!!!) and some basic food items to last us a few days and left. Even that took us 2 hours!!! We'll go back
Hanging Out
Apartment Family Room after the New Year and have a good look around.
Back to the apartment and after several visits by the management and internet people (as they try to sort out our connections), we sit down to some pasta and tomato sauce (not very chinese I know!!!) and finally relax!!!!!!
