Us on the West LakeUs on the West LakeUs on the West Lake

Join us for the view

So we finished packing our lives into two suitcases (using space bags) and two big backpacks! It was epic! And we still had about 3 small suitcases leftover filled with unwanted DVD’s, clothes, shoes, and random crap! Mrs. Agapay, you would have gone ballistic seeing us throwing away all these things. Even Cherizze was biting her nails. Oh well, some lucky Chinese cleaner scored that junk that morning! So we got 3 hours sleep and moved our bags into our Andrew’s house and grabbed a cab to the Wuxi train station. Our first destination was Hangzhou! The train ride took about 3 and bit hours and nothing interesting happened on the train, but a sales chick trying to sell some weird spinning shit! Plus we had to catch up on some much needed sleep- thanks Andrew, Dungeons and Dragons board game was worth it! Cough NERD ALERT cough. Anyways, back to the travelling. Hangzhou is an amazing city. After living in Wuxi for a long time, anywhere in China seems nice, but Hangzhou is something special. The people don’t stare as much, the scenery is beautiful and it’s the cleanest city in mainland China by far. We caught a bus

Hangzhou summed up in one panoramic view of the famous Xi hu
to our hostel which was right next to the West Lake- thanks Jenny, it was very nice. On the way we met an American named Miguel. He was cool and could speak fluent Chinese as he studied in Taiwan. I started to pick his brain for travel advice as he had just spent 3 and half months travelling ALL OVER China! We all got a dorm room together, sat and exchanged stories! This was Cherizze’s first dorm room experience and she was actually quite lucky to get a clean bathroom in the dorm room instead of a dirty communal one! After a power nap, we went out to explore. This was actually my third time to Hangzhou, but Cherizze’s first. But, you can never be bored of this wonderful city. As West Lake (xi hu) was next to us, we decided to have a gander. I’m not going to go into the specs and history of the lake, but according to the Chinese, it’s the most beautiful lake in the world. PFFFFT, it’s nice, but not THAT nice! Definitely not deserving of that title. We walked until we could not walk any longer. Cherizze and I were amazed how clean
Sunset much?Sunset much?Sunset much?

Cherizze and I had competitions in taking the best West Lake sunset photo...guess the winner!
the lake area was! Wuxi’s Taihu lake is an utter crap heap! In April/May of this year, it suffered from a blue-green algae disease. MMMM and boy did it look tasty! Well, Hangzhou’s Xi Hu was nothing like this. While walking up the and down the lake, we were looking for a Indian restaurant. It’s funny that we hear the words Indian restaurant, we jump up like meerkats “WHAT, WHERE, GIVE ME!!!” Chinese food has got nothing on Indian food and for $15 for the two of us… it’s like heaven. And this Indian restaurant in Hangzhou was no exception! It was DELLLLICIOUS! It makes you want to go to India. Plus all the workers were Indian and spoke English, so they couldn’t screw up your order (many times in china). After dinner, we headed back to the hostel, getting to see the lake at night! Hangzhou was a great city to start our holiday. It was nice and relaxing. I actually wished I lived here for the past year! Hopefully, this great start means out future travels will be just as good or even better!

Chinese people: 4/5 (points lost girls giggling and starring at us)
Food: 5/5 (Indian food, you can never go wrong with Indian food)
Scenery: 3/5 (it’s nice, but not THAT nice)
Accommodation: 4/5 (clean, helpful, but a tad expensive. 50RMB each for a dorm room, PFFFT)
Level of annoyance towards each other: Tom’s- 4/5 (Cherizze always has to sleep)
Chynn- 4/5 (Tom couldn’t figure out where some past money went)

Total: 25/30 (not bad Hangzhou, not bad at all)
