It has been a while since my last post as I have been traveling across Tibet via 4x4 with no access to the net. After a cool couple of days back in Chengdu, I hopped on a flight to Lhasa, the capital city of Tibet. On the flight, I met two English blokes (Oliver Tayler....aka OLLIE; Dominic...aka Junior). It took us a few days to get used to the altitude of Lhasa, the capital of Tibet (at 3500... Read Full Entry

As night fell at the lake, the group partook in our favorite card game (and drinking game) called Shnitzlef_cker. With spotty electricity, we used candles to keep the fun going.

Since arrivig in Tibet, I have not slept much. I continually get up at 3a or 4am. I was able to catch the sunrise at the lake before we headed back to Lhasa at 7am.

About 10 minutes outside of Lhasa at the Drepung Monastary, the monks have philisophical debates at 3pm. There is a huge burning pile of leaves which creates smoke which I believe was to keep the flies away.

Drepung Monastery is both the richest and largest in Tibet. It dates to 1416, when it was founded by a disciple of Tsong Khapa; the fifth Dalai Lama later enlarged it. Drepung is only about 5 miles outside Lhasa, near Mt. Gambo Utse. The monestary has had as many as 10,000 monks.

A few of us went out one night to see what the nightlife in Lhasa was like. We ended up in a club with a floor that moves with the music and lots of festive Chinese and Tibetan people.

They make for a good photo but they always ask for money afterwards...and I comply.

Ollie and I rented mountain bikes and took off for the outlying parts of Lhasa...here is a house where they dry cow dung on the walls for later use in fires.

Not sure what but something about this photo makes me smile. All of the houses in the area had them.
