We were up at three in the morning to catch a taxi to the airport. Today we flew back to Shanghai where we will spend a few more days before flying home to Costa Rica.
We arrive to a rainy day in Shanghai. After taking the airport train and a few metro trains we arrive at our hotel. It is in a nice area not far from Peoples Square. Our hotel is more like a mini apartment and it even has a washer/dryer. What a treat! It is a washer and dryer all in one machine. We read over the instructions but they were not easy to understand. All the buttons were in Chinese characters, which caused some confusion. I think we finally washed the same clothes at least two or three times, before we figured out which buttons worked the dryer part.
We spent part of the afternoon exploring the area we are staying. We bought fruit from a local vendor and baked goods from a small bakery. Jim even found a place where we could have had a cocktail right on the street corner! We had dinner at a very busy Chinese restaurant and then watched a bit of a local parade. The police were out in full force to keep people in line. It is one of the first times we have even seen any police in China.
