Another super busy day. I think that this tour was a bit over- ambitious in its activities. Early mornings and late nights and a lot of travelling in the last 4 days is taking a toll on me, and everyone else on the tour!
The day started off well. I got to have oniom rings for breakfast. The hotel we stayed in last night, although nice, didn't have much selection for western styled breakfast. The Chinese seems to like meals at that time of the morning. Noodles, soup, big meats. Not my thing. But the coffee is good and strong!
Before leaving the Hangzhou area, which is quite quaint, if you can call that size of a city quaint, we took a painted boat ride on the West Lake. Now that has such a romantic story behind it. as the story goes a boy and a girl, disguised as a boy to attend school, roomed together for 3 years, without him knowing she was female. It wasn't until after finishing school and the girls parents married her off to another young rich fellow and his family, that this boy realized he was a she and that he was in
love with her. He was so distraught that he took his own life. She heard about this and wanted to spend eternity with him and in love that on the day that he was put in his tomb, she threw herself into it, to be sealed with him forever. The lake is where it all occurred. Today still stands a pagoda that is around 2000 thousand years old tom commemorate his and her burial place.
Next we visited a tea plantation. The Dragon Green Tea plantation to be exact. I never knew how tea was harvested or farmed before. Rolling hills of bushes all tea leaves. Beautiful. We also went to the Fish Wonder at Huagang Crook. How scenic and seren is that park. I can only imagine how be what the park would look like in full bloom!
We then made our way back to Shanghai. A three hour bus ride... But the truck stop beats all others I have ever seen! Huge! Lots of bathrooms, McDonald's, Starbucks, mini-shops, fresh food, etc. Needless to say that we all are tired of Chinese food and opted to get some fries and ice cream from McDonald's.
We then
went to Nanjing Road, which is a brightly lit street filled with shops and restaurants. It reminded me a lot of Las Vegas. Others have said of New York to, but I've never been. We walked up and down the street. On of the guys on the tour was approached by some fellas asking her m if he wants to follow them and go for some tea. Follow them into a black dark alley That is. apparently that is code of paid sex. You follow them, hire a prostitute, have a cup of tea, and pay $500! YIke's!!
Lastly we went on another boat ride down the river to experience the lighted up buildings in the financial district. So bright and beautiful! Reminded me of Christmas, and yes I was humming Christmas songs!
Finally we got back to our hotel at 10 and am exhausted. Only one he full day left, and only 1 Chinese food meal left!!!! Thank goodness! I miss cheese!!!!
Tomorrow should be exciting, we are going to China town... China town in China... Who knew!!
