Before my internship started. Zoey told me several times the night before to meet her at 7:50 at a certain station. It was the station we met at the day before to go to the water city, WuCheng. It took me an hour to arrive when we went to WuCheng and i was 20 minutes late. Zoey told me it would take me 40 minutes to get there. So i left an hour early for work. Unlike the day before, i happened by chance to catch a metro as soon as i arrived at every station. In Santiago, Chile there is a metro during the day every 30 seconds perhaps less. In Shanghai, the metros are all perfectly timed to be 6 minutes and 45? seconds apart. There is a count down in every station. Since i had to change metro stations three times, the first day i was 20 minutes late and the second day i was 20 minutes early.
I arrived twenty minutes early and waited. At 8:10 when Zoey was 20 minute late, i began texting and calling her. When she was half an hour late, i was getting ready
to text an american in the group who knows the phone number of a girl who is working at the same company as me. Perhaps she could take me to the place. Then zoey finally called me and said she would meet me in 10 more minutes. She arrived with the girl, Lisa, and we continued along the metro line several stops and changed metros. When we finally got off the metro, we took a bus. It will be a commute to work everyday. Ha ha ha!
My internship was interesting. Both good and bad. I haven't formed any opinions about it so far. There's a boss and 20 employees, 10 in our room and 10 in another room. My boss doesn't speak english, but he hired a girl who got her master's in australia and will direct us. She has the chicken pox and will be in on monday. The company produces mainly powdered baby milk imported from New Zealand and several other smaller products like baby vitamins and stuff. Everything has to be imported because Chinese don't trust chinese milk or chinese baby food. Apparently they have never trusted Chinese infant formula, but this greatly increased some two
years ago when several huge powdered baby milk companies added a protein to make their product look bigger and the protein killed many chinese babies. There has been various other problems in the past with with domestic infant formula. He wants us to do several projects such as research the cost and possible companies from which they can purchase baby food (a diversification from milk). Chinese regulations are much stricter than US and other regulations on baby food so the product will have to be modified accordingly. They are getting ready to launch stage two of their baby formula with beginning of the business part of the World Expo which I am planning to attend. Yesterday we discussed how their booth is going to look. He is spending a lot of money and doesn't plan to sell anything. He just wants to increase brand awareness of his company which to me, means he is standing next to all the other companies flexing his muscles just like what my mom says are teenage boys in a locker room with their pants down all saying who is bigger (this never happens, but with our testosterone everyone must be the best and right
desert
it wasn't chocolate or even sweet :-( all the time. this is why no Real man will ever back down from an argument even when i knows he is losing. if he has started to back the point, he won't quit because that means he is wrong. yes this is pointless.)
They feed us lunch. We eat scrambled eggs in water, lots of cooked vegetables, white rice, and a little meat. my meat was only bone though. Zoey stayed with us all day because the Aussie wasn't there yet. She asked me if i ate spicy food, i answered of course and the girl came and took my lunch. I asked zoey what happened about 30 minutes later breathing in the heavy fumes lunch and she said the cook is making a second batch that is spicy. The meat was spicy and i poured the meat into the white rice to give it flavor. I ate the cooked salad and white rice for lunch. I really don't like chinese food. There is no air conditioning in the office. Well there is, but they won't turn it on. It's okay though because the boss works in the same area as us so i know that no matter how
hot it gets he's okay working in it too. Yesterday was a terribly hot day, but it wasn't that bad in the office. We keep the doors open use the AC from the hall and keep the windows closed and i can go to the bathroom to feel the air conditioning if i want.
There's another american intern named Lisa. She complains all the time and is very negative, but she can speak some chinese which is awesome! she has these cute glasses too. We had a meeting with the boss and he's INCREDIBLE! He started the company
and now he's starting another company. He's a really successful entrepreneur. There's a girl in the office who came up and spoke to me. Maybe she can teach me chinese after work or something. We will see each other everyday. She was still working yesterday when i left at 5:30 so we'll see what her schedule is.
During the meeting we had with my boss, he asked me how many day a week I am working. Just as Zoey has told me many times, it's all about what people say. A contract has little meaning. Since the terms of my internship were
still optional, i told him that I was working four days a week. This means I'll have three day weekends. I, of course, offered to work on Fridays if needed.
