Right finally got to an internet cafe so got time to type!
We arrived in Shanghai this morning by night train. It was so much nicer than we expected. The beds were three high with carrage upon carrage of them all lined up but it was clean. We took some drinks to keep us going as it was 13 hours! As ever I woke up early before everyone and watched the passing secenery. It was so perffect the mist was really low as was the sun, beautiful over the passing fields and hills.
We havent done much in Shanghai yet but got lots planned for tommorow. Before we got on the sleeper train we spent the day in Beijing...now experts using the undergrond there as well as pushing in as the locals all do. Some of the tubes would turn up packed so we would step back but the chinese seem to just run and jump in, the doors dont re open if you arent in properly like in london so limbs and bags would be dragged on reguardless! We attemped this squashing in method with success until we realised our stop was on the other side!
While trying
to get a taxi to the temple of heaven the taxi we hailed was so eager to get to us he did a u turn in the middle of a busy road running into a passing cyclist....much to lees amusement he laughed the whole journey.
bejing is very modern with lots of big shopping complexes however along side which you get the food markets....endless winding streets as you would imagine china town to be, of stools selling a mixture of foods such as live scorpians on a stick to pick and have fried. We had a beef cake.....a kind of herby mince meat probably dog in a bap type bread followed by fried icecream alot like baked alaska.
The night before we got on the train we had peking duck which lee loved and even I tried (didnt like) but in all the food has been amazing....not sure how long we can last on chinese morning noon and night tho!
We went to the summer palace in bejing also amazing and beautiful (I wonder how many times I will say that in the next few months) it was surrounded by gardens with people doing yoga and
dancing in I attempted to join in much to the others amusement. The empress who lived there had a room built to celebrate her birthdays in called the purple palace so i have already started my own plans!
We have spent a good few days packing in the sights and running around like typical tourists so we are having the night off today ready to pack more in tomorrow. It is one of the lads birthdays so think we are off clubbing can you believe it clubbing in Shanghai.
Will let you know how it goes.
Love to you all as always
Katy and Lee
