Walking to the super market with Maggie.
On my first full day in Jingdezhen I tried getting settled into my new surroundings at the Pottery Workshop. This artist residency is located within a industrial part of the city where many local people work in ceramics. Mold makers, prototype makers, underglaze and overglaze makers, wheel throwers, slip casters, kiln operators and clay makers almost every part of the ceramic process is someones job.

Maggie, a local girl and english graduate from university is an artist assistant at the Pottery Workshop. Her job is translator and tour guide and can help you find what you need to make your stay the most comfortable and productive. On my second day at the PWS we walked outside the gates of the Sculpture Factory and Pottery Workshop and showed me around the surrounding area. She took me to the No.1 Bakery for tasty buns and yogurt for my breakfasts and pointed out various shops for me to take notice of. The city itself is a hustle and bustle kind of city, it's very loud, dirty, congested and overwhelming at first. It is busy and chaotic but there is something simple and easy about the local people's way of life. Each shop sells

Buses, cars, taxis, motorcycles, scooters, motorized bicycles, people all us this major street. There is a lot of honking and they even drive on the sidewalks!
a very specific thing, everything is pretty inexpensive, people are friendly, women wear high heels everywhere and there are no crying babies.
