Ma Ma & Rose
One of the few shots I she stood still for. Couldn't sleep so thought I get a chance to post a bit more about yesterday. That and get the pictures off the camera while Qing Ling is asleep. Seems she's quite fascinated with taking pictures and like most photographers she wants to be behind the camera not in front of it. She gets all shy and such.
She had a case of home sick yesterday right before we went to have her picture taken (found out it was a passport picture, which she had already taken but this one was for the registration office's files.) She asked to go and talk to Evelyn (CCAI representative that's helping take care of us this week. I can't even begin to say enough good things about her!) even though she wasn't speaking English we knew what she was asking. Evelyn came over to our room, well Qing brought her here, she wanted her to help call the 2 people she was the closest with and they had given her their cell numbers in case she wanted to call. One is like her grandmother that helps take care of the children in the orphanage. The other person is the man that takes her to
Mom & Jasmine
Jasmine however loves to get in front of the camera and I'm always happy to take her picture. school and picks her up afterwords. She was able to call both of them and seemed ok after that.
Another interesting thing while we were looking in her backpack she brought with her we found this fancy certificate, we had been letting her share things from the backpack as she wanted to so hadn't really looked in there until then. Anyway, Evelyn said this was a certificate from school for being an honor student. They don't really have a honor roll kind of thing but that's the closest thing I can think to call it. She is one of the top 3 students in studies and it talks about how helpful she is to the other students. That's one of those things you wish you could do some of that movie magic when the screen slowly fads from one language to another so you could see exactly what it says. She also has a math workbook. Looks just about the same as the problems Jasmine brings home and yes the numbers were in English so it was easy for me to figure out (good thing!).
Jasmine was trying to teach her the alphabet yesterday, she would right the
The 3 girls
Got this one quick before Qing ran. letter, like A, sound it out for her and then give her an example of a word that started with that letter. Qing Ling took a turn and wrote, in Chinese the words for mom and dad. Evelyn later told us what she had written was big sister and dad but she was instant that she wrote mom and dad. Either way I thought it was pretty cool to 2 of them teaching each other. I was amazed at how Jasmine went about doing this, just like a pro.
Funny thing when they got to D Qing started singing the scales, you know doe, ray, fa, la.... and yes in English. I just started laughing at that, she did as well as Julie Andrews. :-)
We did have to switch over the bad parents on the way back from the picture thing. We stopped by a department/grocery store. It seems this was a first for her so she was picking up all kinds of snacks, not health stuff, plain old junk food...Chinese style. We had to tell her (with help from Evelyn) that she couldn't buy all that stuff, it was to much of stuff that wasn't good
Group 1801
Hard to see but that's the rest of our group at the registration office. Qing Ling took this one. for her and we didn't want her to eat that instead of supper food. She didn't put up a big fuss about it, thank goodness, and was quick to share some of it with Jasmine. Except for the Dove chocolates, she quickly tuck those away. Some of the stuff I'm really not sure what it was other then Evelyn said it was salty and spicy stuff. I know I'm trying not to think about my sodium intake here. They do like salty stuff in this part of China. Evidently they also like really spicy hot food in this providence but I've not run across anything spicy for me yet. Wish I could try some of the street food vendors, I'm betting I could find some of this spicy stuff but we have to stay away from those places. We American's have “spoiled” stomachs so not good for us to even thing to try it. I wouldn't even think about arguing that point.
I'm including more pictures from yesterday. Some of these I took, some Qing Ling took, some Jasmine took. I was planning to post the whole lot of them to Facebook but that'll have to wait until we
Registrar and Evelyn
Qing Ling took this one also, kind of fuzzy but wanted to keep it. Evelyn is the one of the right. I didn't get the other lady's name. get back home. Bryan...just for the record I really miss my DSLR!
Doctors visit on the agenda today, and maybe a walking site seeing tour, if the weather clears. We haven't seen the sun or the tops of some of these builds yet for the fog that's settled in and they are calling for rain the rest of the week.
