My balls, my balls, my mental balls" Lola the Russian
Week 3 in Sanya was characterised by... illness and bus trauma. BUT, we finally have all our classes sorted!
With the typhoon little more than a distant memory, Belle and I set off for the town centre, navigating the way (for the first time) all by ourselves. As the laws of the universe seem to dictate, something must always go wrong when you don’t speak the language. This time, the bus crashed. I have been waiting a while for this to happen as the roads in china are mental. As I cross them, I whisper prayers to every god imaginable and screw up my eyes so as to not witness my own imminent death. This time the bus driver wasn't going too fast as we were in a traffic jam, he did however try to drive though a gap that was probably a little small. Belle and I though, were in agreement that I wasn’t the bus driver’s fault that the van driver had to have moved a little in order to be hit. The bus driver had to get off and the ticket lady even took off her sash. Something big was going down
Halloween
Lola, Ted, me, Belle & Anna - but all we wanted was to get to the beach... 10 minutes and 2 policemen later and we were on our way, but not before the damaged van's driver cut us up once more... I'm not sure of the Chinese for "lemon driver" but I'm pretty sure the word reverberated around the bus.
And so October drew to a close, but not before one final hurrah. On Halloween I realised that an evil genius had written my text book. We were learning how to say the date, and of course the example in the text book was 31.10... I couldn’t look at it, dark forces were at work, and it’s too much of a coincidence. I think this lesson will haunt me for the rest of my life. The Halloween party was great, I just wish I hadn't drunk so much tequila - the night and the next day were pretty much a write off. Our costumes were great though, we didn't have many materials available to us, and some of the guys painted their faces with water based paint. In the end, we managed 5 great costumes, I was a rag doll; and I had
Halloween
Belle & me changed the shape of my eyes with white eye liner and false lashes, and I was scared of myself. Not in a horrifying way, more in a "that just looks wrong" way. The others were a ghost (fashioned out of a bed sheet), death, an evil pixie and a half dead geisha.
It's true that the rest of the weekend was a bit calmer... most of it was spent, asleep, watching films and realising that I had pulled my stomach muscles on Wednesday night whilst hugging my toilet bowl. The weekend was full of modelling; on Saturday Ted went for a wedding photo shoot with Radla (who models professionally). Friday night we went to see him try on his dorky clothes and he was so cute. I think he had a great time at the shoot, but he didn't want us to go, and we didn’t want to do anything major without him, so we just went to the beach again - it's becoming more like a home from home than my room. We had a sangria party on Saturday night, and although I wasn't drinking, I still had a little dance around the room to Aqua
Sangria Party
Anna, Lola & Belle and the Spice Girls.
And then on Sunday, Belle, Lola and Teddy went on the photography students' slutty photo shoot, so I hung out with Anna and we ate and chilled out the whole day. I think maybe I have finally recovered from the evils of tequila - and it will be added to my list of undrinkable substances. Just looking at the costumes they had to wear, I'm so glad I said no - It was my idea of a nightmare... let's just say that leotards and fake tattoos were involved; which although the ingredients for a great night out are not so great in the midday sun surrounded by hundreds of flashing bulbs.

Wowza!
Zinn, I wish I didn't have my job now, just so that I could come and visit! It all sounds like a dream. Does it feel real yet? How's your Mandarin coming along really? Sounds like you've met some lovely people too. Seems like you feel quite at home there, ey? I just checked out where Sanya is on google maps and you are in the most amazing location to visit Vietnam and the Philippinnes! I'm so jealous. I'll send you a big email soon. Take care... watch out for typhoon debris and flying trees! Loads of love xxxxx
