Oh God help me" Belle whist writing Chinese characters
"Even God can't help you now" Luo, our Chinese teacher...
On Tuesday night Belle and I went for dinner with Olivia, one of our Chinese friends. In China, I have no idea why, they dance in groups in the streets on campus, every 5 yards there is another group of kids dancing in unison. Olivia managed to persuade us, for a full 5 minutes that they were practicing beginners Kong Fu. At first we really didn't believe her, but she was so certain and persuasive that I really started to believe her, well until she started laughing her head off at least.
Wednesday as usual was spent at the beach.... and our bus nearly crashed on the way there... he slammed on the breaks, narrowly avoiding a car going the wrong way up the road, and by narrowly, I mean a matter of meters. It was lucky we did stop in time because we were travelling at some speed.
Other items on the itinerary this week were a trip to the cinema - where we saw no films, on account of not really knowing what was going on, a trip to KFC to have a wrap – which is almost exactly like a Peking duck wrap, only
Anna's Graduation
Dai, Anna, Belle & Jules with KFC chicken – a major improvement in my book, and Anna ending up asleep on her bathroom floor at only 8pm.
Let me explain. Anna graduated from her Italian university on 10.11.12 (which, if you ask me is a great day for a graduation and was also, incidentally, my one month anniversary in China), only she wasn’t able to attend the ceremony – so we decided to have one here, in Sanya! We made her a graduation cap out of paper and made her a certificate... The whole day was Sanya style – shisha and sangria from the early afternoon (hence the passing out in the bathroom).
The ceremony itself was really cute, and we recorded it all on camera... Dai and Kai were the masters of ceremony and their speech included some rubbish made-up metaphors about childhood and old age and not wasting opportunities. Lauren also fainted on camera (with her cigarette in her mouth) and as much as it was not funny at all, Belle couldn’t stop laughing.. (only when Lauren was fully recovered - of course). We keep watching the video back again and again in fast replay, just to hear the bang, bang,
bang of her head on the ground... ouch.
In Italia, the friends of the graduate write an embarrassing speech for them to read – if they hesitate or make a mistake they have to drink... we even stuck to this tradition too... Anna consumed a bottle of wine in very little time. The rest of us made it to the beach for a pyjama party, and Teddy made friends with some more Chinese people, who bought us about 16 beers in total.
Sunday was obviously spent recovering for some people, so I didn’t do much except eat 😊
The Americans invented cinema" Teddy
What about the Lumiere Brothers?.....
