It was the middle of March and Laura and I decided to try our hike again.
We did more research and went a completely different direction to last time. This time our hike started in the sea side town of Xiaomeisha. We had read that the hike could take up to five hours and as we knew we would want to stop for photos and the bus ride took over an hour we arrived in Xiaomeisha at around 10am.
We started in the right direction and we were doing well. We followed the path and came across a viaduct. We crossed it and found the way we wanted was blocked by building work. We were starting to think China didn't want us to hike, there was always building work. We couldn't turn right and turning left bought us to the water works area so we had to turn back the way we came. We then arrived at a gate, that had been open when we'd passed that way earlier. On re-tracing our steps we found it shut and locked. There was fencing all around the side, luckily we found a gap and climbed through it. We then had to
climb over a fence to get us back on track.
It was getting hot and we were contemplating just going to the beach instead when we found some steps. We went up them and found another path. We followed it for miles, stopping once for lunch and a few times to take photos.
We came to a fork in the road and wasn’t sure which path to take. We looked at the phone map that said we were quite some way from where we started. Just as started to have that sinking feeling thinking we would have to turn back again, we realised we were really close to Dameisha, all we had to do was go through the tunnel and we were there.
The hike was meant to take a lot longer so we knew we hadn't done the ‘official’ hike but we had walked from Xiamoesisha to Dameisha and that's what we had set out to do!
When we arrived in Dameisha we noticed a theme park, OCT East and saw it had a water area. We went in to the town and found some cheap bikinis and went to the park. When we entered
we found the water area was shut but we had paid to enter so went on the other rides. It was mid-March so not the right season for tourists so a lot of the rides were shut. It had started to get pretty foggy and when we went to the highest point and the glass bridge, which is meant to allow you a brilliant view of the theme park, the town below and the beach, we could barely see our own feet.
We finished the rides at the same time the park was closing so we went to Pizza Hut for dinner. It's not quite the same as a Western Pizza Hut but the dessert we had was amazing.
Yet again our hike hadn't worked out how we wanted it to, but spending that day with Laura was brilliant and I loved every minute of it.
