So we went to a networking event after work today with the British Chamber of Commerce. I was expecting it to be fairly layed back, as that is the way everything in Beijing seems to be. However when I arrived I found everyone was very well dressed and that the bar was pretty posh. After getting our free drink for the evening Diana and I strolled around the bar which had lounge chairs and little tables everywhere. On most of the tables there were free snacks which were complimentary with the ticket price. So we sat down in a side room at a table that had celery, carrots, cucumber, and dip and proceded to chow down all of it. Then we noticed that the table across the room had a cheesecake, so we decided since we had depleted our food source to move over to the next table. So we dug in with some friends, who weren't really convinced that the cheesecake was for eating, since everything else that was free were just little snacks. Then all of a sudden some of the waitresses come up and tell us that in fact the cheesecake was not for eating, but was made for someone from the chamber's farewell dinner. I still don't know why they set the cake, forks, a knife, and saucers out with the cake where everyone was mingling, but basically we were forced to buy the cake. The cost was 460 RMB which ends up being roughly $57.50. I think that is the most expensive cheescake I have ever had, although it was good. I don't even think you would pay that much for New York cheesecake in New York! Since we paid such a hefty price, we brought the remaining cheesecake home and have decided to eat it everyday until it is gone😊

Not much else happened today, except that I did get a response to my emails. Basically all the guy said was that he appreciated the information and that he would let us know if he needed our services. At least I know that someone is reading my emails and that not everyone is just deleting them as they come in!
