After landing in Beijing two days earlier, I joined a 13km hike of the Great Wall with the Beijing Hikers. The hike was titled "Yanqing Great Wall and Long Valley City". We left Bejing around 8 am and returned around 7.30pm. The organizers, Zak and Tyler, supplied water, some snacks and dinner in a local village restaurant. Hikers were responsible for their own lunch. Cost was 350 RMB. Languages of communication was Mandarin and English.

I definitely suggest the Beijing Hikers to anyone wanting to see a less touristy section of the Great Wall. The section we hiked was not repaired and we scrambled in several areas. We were alone for most of the hike, only meeting up with other hikers in the last couple of kilometers.

Unfortunately the day was hazy and my pictures don't do justice to the area. Check out Beijing Hikers at www.beijinghikers.com
