Old Shop
One of the ancient shps put into a new building that looks ancient, if that makes sense Hello everybody,
I've already written about this place before, but I didn't get to have a look at it properly because I was nervous that I was going to get arrested by the special ops police that were running around closing off streets behind me and making it so I couldn't get back to my station! This time there was no stress, Kate, Sue and me all went together, and while the girls looked at every shoe that has ever been made, I looked at shops that sold vaguely interesting products. Went into a few tea shops this time too, and I'm brewing a green tea as we speak, so I'll find out if I like it or not in a few minutes! If I start writing about pink elephants etc, it probably means that the tea was another sort of leaf all together. Oh well.
So yeah, we kept on looking around there, had a pop into a few of the silk shops to see what they were like and checked out some fabrics to get suits and dresses made out of, but they were a bit expensive where we were so we'll try somewhere else, Kate thinks
Down the street
Very pretty at night Shanghai is better, so I'll try that out. We finished up there at about 7:00 and went to meet Lloyd and a couple of his friends at a fish and chips restaurant in another traditional hutong just near where Kate & Lloyd used to live. It's a really nice area through there, I can see why they liked living there much more than they like living in Longze where they are now, but Longze's got its own charm, in a kind of third-worldly smells-like-vomit-and-tofu, mind-your-step kind of way. This place is much more "Chinese" than downtown Beijing though. I quite like it to be honest, at least you really feel like you're on holidays.
That's getting a bit off topic.
So we had fish and chips for dinner - well, that's not true, I had a pizza and Sue had a salad, but it was a fish and chips restaurant, so the option was there, then we went to the RMB10 bar where every drink is under 10RMB, except for a few which were under 20RMB (the equivalent of $2.00-$4.00), which is cool, although it results in some very interesting people in the bar, one of whom (!)
Broken puppy
Sue couldn't resist taking a photo Lloyd views as a local celebrity because he sings Karaoke at one of the restaurants near his school. Unfortunately, Lloyd screamed "That's Him! That's Him! That's the Texan Singer! Guys! Look! The Texan Singer! He's in the bar right now! Guys! Look!". This went on for some minutes, until he realised that the Texan Singer's friends were all staring at him like a madman - with very good reason. We eventually dragged him away and bundled ourselves into taxis for a very well deserved rest (holidays are hard work).
Hope you guys are having a great time. We'll talk to you all soon. Just a reminder that if you are still reading these, you can subscribe to them so that you don't have to check and be let down by my slackness on days like these when it was easier to go to bed last night than to sit up and try to remember what happened through the day. I'm off
