It’s Friday. We’ve had a great week in the lab. All the chemists. . .Wei, Shun, Huang, Zhang, Zhang (there are two Zhang’s!), Dou, and Sun have been putting in crazy hours. . .working all the way through the night some days! They are truly doing an amazing job and I’m enjoying working with them immensely. I’m learning a lot as well. I’ve never done process chemistry before, so this has been such an interesting experience for me. Also, now that we are getting to know each other better we are able to laugh and joke together while we work. I told them about this travel blog I’ve been writing and they all wanted to check out the site so I gave them the web address. I’m sure they must think I am a very strange girl after reading it! Oh! But later on we were all walking down the street and I saw that strange little cat/dog and pointed at it and everyone realized it was the one I wrote about and we all laughed. Oh! I got a picture of it this time. It’s a sweet little dog. It wagged it tail and I think
it was trying to tell me that it wanted to come back with me to San Diego. . .but I can’t be sure, of course. :P
I still can’t get over how inexpensive most things are here. . .except for houses. . .evidently the housing prices here are about the same as in San Diego. My hotel overlooks a housing development called, Green Rivers Manor. . .they are definitely homes for the affluent. It’s a gated community. They have two very serious looking guards at a guard post on the road entering the development. So back to how affordable things are. . .I bought sun screen (for my four hour walk tomorrow), a diet coke, q-tips, and a spoon (for stirring my coffee at work) for only $2.50!
I almost forgot. . .we had a bit of excitement today in lab. We all went to lunch in the cafeteria. . .the food is really good, by the way. . .and when we got back to lab we realized we’d locked the keys inside the office! There is a tiny window in the lab that goes into the office and it was unlocked. So Shun became a hero and
squeezed through the window to let us in. I wish I had gotten a picture of it, but my camera was inside my bag, which was inside the locked office.
So there was one last bit of excitement for the day. When we got back to the hotel, we decided that it would be nice if we (Danbo and I) were on the same floor of the hotel. But the room they put me in had a handicapped bathroom. When I took a shower the entire bathroom floor (it’s recessed) flooded with water an inch deep all the way across! I called Danbo and asked her if this was a ‘Chinese thing’. She came over to my room and looked at the flood and said it was definitely not a ‘Chinese thing’. So I ended up getting moved to a room with a nice flood-free bathroom.
Alright ta ta for now!

A Tub
Well, the new flood-free bathroom looks like it has a tub in it so you can soak your sore hip in it. The dog looks interesting and you are having fun. That is what counts. Miss you, Mom
