For South East Asia I stronly recommend a tour unless you are a backpacker type that really would like to do this on your own agenda and time.

Cambodia was not visited by many americans until the turn of the century due to its status up until now of a communist state.

Do: Be open minded, you may experience culture shock when you first arrive. Visit Siem Reap-Ankor Wat. This beautiful temple is interesting as with new kings it would change from hindu to buddist. Its also where Tomb Raider was filmed. Visit Pub Street where one can hear YMCA right next to Daddy Yankee. I also liked the night markets shopping at 11pm for deals and unique items. Visit Phnom Phen where there is the amazing central market, the Mekong River, and the Killing Fields and museum where millions were executed, Go to Sihanouville with its beautiful beaches and fun island hopping boats. After so much history I would recommend ending your visit this way. Go out at night to the beach bars

Eat: Try something you have never tried before. Try Khmer Currry and spring rolls

Know: American currency is the main currency so bring lots of flat $1 and $5. Many of the areas have poor people and both kids selling items late at night and prositiution are a norm. Learn how to say no because you can get almost anything for $1 and these dollars add up very quickly. Always be ready to negotiate never pay full price. As in most of Asia always make sure you have toilet paper handy also be aware many toilets are squat non wester toilets

My europe experience and asia experience so far have been very different. What had impresed me the most about the portugese people was their pride in their country, that whenever asked a question they would stop everything they were doing to help you with whatever they could. What impacted me the most about Cambodia was the strength of the people. Even after being tortured and being caught in the middle of the war they still fight to rebuild and are determined to have their children educated
