Guns!
Wednesday was a gun day!
Yes dear readers our great plan was to head to a firing range and shoot some real guns and live ammunition!
I was awake early as usual and was ready and rearing to go in and the end I had to make sure paddy was up and ready to go and then had to chase him a second time!
We headed off to the ATM to get the money for shooting, and to get some breakfast from a local bakery. Not sure what we chose but it was followed by a chocolate doughnut. Our lift arrived promptly at 10am as agreed and we climbed in and headed off. On the way to the firing range we collected another guy on the way but he was with the company who were running the event. There was a cool bix in the boot with water soft drinks and beer! I decided to give the beer a miss until I'd fired the big guns lol.
It took us about 2 hours to get there and we pulled up to the firing range and
then waited. As we waited a few more people arrived, but they were locals rather than other people shooting, they had obviously come to watch the westerners fire guns lol. there was also a woman with a little boy for some reason, she pushed cotton wool into his ears to muffle the noise.
Then the firing instructor arrived on a moped with the guns strapped across the seat and a tin box containing the ammunition On the back. We had a selection of weapons of choice - M16, AK47, M4, M60. We had 30 bullets for each of the 3 guns We chose to fire. Paddy was first on each occasion. We had ear defenders, but before we had a chance to put them on 'The colonel', as Paddy had affectionately called him, fired a couple of rounds, luckily I saw just in time and shoved my fingers in my ears, but Paddy wasn't so lucky and the noise fried his ears somewhat!
After arming the first gun it was our turn to shoot and paddy went first. The instructor showed us how to hold each weapon and look down to line up the
two points on the weapon and aim it at the target.. They had lined up some bottles of water and cans of coke on coconuts lol. I managed to hit at least one target with each gun I fired. Not bad for a girl who couldn't hit anything on a skeet shoot a few days ago lol! The guns did get heavy whilst holding them and the adrenaline was pumping and my arm ached from holding the gun each time and trying to hold them steady so I could shoot the targets. It was also very hot and the ear defenders were a bit cumbersome when firing the guns and my palms got all sweaty, in fact I was generally hot and sweaty all over, attractive not lol.
After shooting we had some pictures taken, we didn't fire the rocket launcher just held it for show. We then headed back to our hotel. Altogether it was a 2 hour ride each way and about an hour in total on the range, so most of our day was taken up with travelling.
When we got back I nipped to the post office to send some
more stuff home and then came back for a snooze. When I woke up the sky was all dark and foreboding and the winds that preceed the rains had set in, and then the heavens opened and a deluge of rain came down. I popped up to see Paddy to formulate a plan, he was looking for an Irish bar so I left him to do some research and to come and collect me when the rains had stopped.
So finally we could escape and Paddy had found an Aussie bar not too far away instead of an Irish one as he wanted to watch a rugby game between Queensland and New South Wales. We took a tuk tuk to the bar and had some food, again embracing the Cambodian food and had burger and chips. Unfortunately the bar was not showing the rugby, but a guy mentioned that there was a sports bar round the corner which was. So after finishing our food, and just as half time was hitting we wandered round to the sports bar. It was pretty packed with fans watching the game bunt luckily we found two seats at the front and
ordered a bucket of cider on ice, that's 6 bottles for $12 bargain! 3 apple and 3 pear. And then we settled down to watch the 2nd half of the game, I think it was NSW that won. After the game most of the patrons left and Paddy and I had 3 games of pool. This time he won fair and square lol, but I did put up a fight and anyone who knows my pool skills will know how badly I can play but on occasions pull, out some flukey shots lol.
Then it was time to,head back for an early night as we had to leave early on Thursday.
Xx
