Our fifth consecutive day at sea. We've developed a general routine really. Wake, gym, breakfast, an activity, lunch, gym, relax, show, dinner, game, sleep. Ive never been very good at the whole relaxing thing. With a limited amount of activities, games, movies and space I'm getting a bit restless and irritable. I'm feeling a little disappointed and resentful towards the ship and cruise line to be honest. I'm not particularly fussy, but Norwegian just lacks the quality of Royal Caribbean and Carnival. We've met some lovely people at dinners, but noone our age to really have fun with. Its a very old crowd.
We try and make the best of it and enjoy ourselves as much as we can. We've frequented the basketball court a lot. Theres never really anyone there. Theres two small soccer goals I use for practicing my accuracy. I think we've played board games every single day. Its pretty much a rotation between scrabble, monopoly and Yahtzee. Natalie dosnt like losing. We've gone to a couple trivia sessions too. Its hard with just two of us, we get about half the questions right. Kris dosnt like getting low scores. We've played outdoor jumbo checkers, but haven't
got around to chess as of yet. The other day, we went along to watch the Family Feud game show. Despite Nats protests I signed us up as potential players, and would you know it, we were both picked in the first 5 contestants, on the same team no less. The game consisted of two teams of five on stage in front of an audience. The objective being to pick the best answer to a topic or category. Eg. Name a popular sport with no ball. (The top answer was swimming which Natalie provided). The game was a bit flawed, but in the end our team ran out victorious. We were graced with incredibly generous prizes too! A stubby holder and deck of playing cards. Wow!
We've been to a variety of shows together which vary in quality. The best being Magika (Sander and Allison) a magic show, the best Ive ever seen. It featured animals, making them appear and disappear out of seemingly impossible situations, birds, a rabbit, a cat, even a giant albino python! Further, the magician actually made his partner instantly appear in a transparent box without any covering! Another good show was an acrobatic duo, with plenty
of tricks and impressive gymnastics.
We've had a bit of time to ourselves aboard too, Natalie has taken in some girly movies at the theatre, as well as some extra shows, a talent show and a dancing show. She also likes to spend alot of time swimming, reading and relaxing by the pool.
The last couple of days, Ive been up bright and early around 6.30am to watch the sun rise. Its quite a view. Natalie has met me on deck to share the views, and today we had extra company! A bird, an egret or cormorant of some kind was enjoying a nap on the ship Bannister. Amazing to find really, in the middle of the Atlantic, 100s of kilometers from land. The nearest island from here that could be his home, would be Bermuda, 200km away. This also of course means of course we are passing through the mysterious waters of the infamous Bermuda Triangle..
Tomorrow is our last full day at sea. Sunday, we arrive in Miami, we change rooms, and commence the second part of our cruise, southbound for Columbia, Costa Rica and Mexico before we reach LA. The end is in sight now, but not before a couple
more adventures.
