FIRST and most importantly... 10 days until my BIRTHDAYYY!!!!
welll now that everyone has been reminded... lets begin.
I know its been a while since my last entry (again) and I'm sorry. I will try and do better. LOTS has happened and EVERYTHING has changed. My 54 day tour from Nairobi to Capetown is over after visiting 9 countries and traveling 11,351 Kilometers in a bus, I mean truck (haha). It was hard once again leaving the group and saying goodbye to those who I have lived and traveled with for so long. Since my last post, I've been up to some pretty cool things including doing the worlds highest bungy jump, Safari's in Addo National Elephant Park, hiking a small bit of the world famous Otter Trail, visiting the Cango Caves, and wine tasting in Stellenbosch. We definitely had some rainy days along the way but card games like shithead, kings cup and of course the animal noise game (which I will never forget) entertained us for hours.
Trip Hi-Lights (sorry for those of you who don't understand everything)
- The Zebra's and Giraffe's communicating
- Mowing the lawn in the Serengeti
- Ma's
Revenge
- waking up in hammocks at 4 AM
- Zanzibar... all of it.
- Church on Christmas in Malawi
- Our crazy driver in South Luangwa, the lions and elephant
- White water rafting the Zambezi
- The loo with a view
- The questions asked in Nelson Mandela's house (Mirella I'm not saying this one for our own sakes)
- Water Safari in Mozambique... not.
- Clubbing in St. Lucia
- The games and late nights in Hogsback
- Mia, Why is the buffalo sleeeeeping?
- Cous Cous gone wrong
Amarula, Mr. Bean, Nicky Non-Stop, Rich, Ronel, Wilhelm, Tim, Bekki, Mia, Julia and Carmen. You all added so much to the whole experience and I think about you guys all the time.
But every new beginning comes from some other beginnings end, so here I am starting something new. I am now living just outside of Capetown in Fish Hoek (yes where the man was eaten WHOLE by a great white shark a month ago). It is a gorgeous town on the coast surrounded by mountains. I'm currently living with 11 girls and 1
guy. Most of my house mates are from England but there is also one from Switzerland and one from Romania (who was a MTV presenter there... SO cool). Many of the people are also here on gap years and going to university next year so its nice to have some people at the same place in life as me.
While living at the house, I am volunteering in a township(slum) with disabled children. I am finding this difficult because its hard to communicate with them. Even if I did speak Afrikaans, I'm not sure that they would be able to process what I was saying. Another tough part of the job is hygiene. I'm constantly being spat on, having food thrown at me and being given big fat slobbery kisses. So everyday when I come home a shower is first on my list. I know this all sounds negative but I really am enjoying working with them. It is all worth is when I can make one of them stop crying and smile.
This past weekend all of my house mates went on a Safari and well, because I've done a few of them I stayed behind alone in
the house. So I made my way into Capetown to explore taking the train in and walking around. I went to the waterfront which is filled with massive cargo ships, a very good mall, many markets and live music. I also checked out Long Street which is one of the oldest in Capetown and is the center of the club and bar scene, but it also is lined with old Mosques and candy colored Victorian houses that have been made into restaurants, cafe's and clothing boutiques. It was a fun day and good to go on an adventure by myself.
We have a full week ahead of us including Braai's(barbecue), city visits, comedy clubs and maybe some surfing. Now that I had reliable Internet I'm working on posting my pictures on facebook so keep a look out!!
Hope that everything is well back at home and your all not too cold and snowed in!
Lots of love xoxox
