I seem to be getting more & more acquainted with the creepy crawly variety of African species; beside the adventure with the cockroach in the last entry, I have now managed to accidently kill the lizard that lived on my windowsill (by trapping it under the door), trying to get rid of various spiders, and found a praying mantis on the wall. Weirdest of all, yesterday I found a frog on my kitchen floor-when I'm in a land locked country, miles from any water! NB, don't ever try to get a frog out of the house with a dustpan & brush; it just jumps away! It eventually hid behind the cooker, so I just gave up on it. The area contains several enormous granite ‘whaleback’ domes rising from a sea of multi-coloured trees which cover the surrounding hills and valleys. A river runs through the middle over a series of waterfalls and natural pools providing a perfect environment for the Kingfishers and other birds which thrive there. The wildlife is present in incredible abundance and it’s difficult to walk more than a few paces without seeing another type of animal, insect or flower. We saw countless birds whilst wandering the many trails that run through the area, visiting twitchers have apparently racked up about ... read more

Finally, i'm up and running with my web-journal. Huge apologies to all those who thought the lions ate me in africa... and hello to all who are just learning about my mad travels. Don't have the time at the mo w travels to recap our Africa adventures but watch this space in April for a full update and more photos.
