Well, it's the start of my second full week here; and I really enjoy it. The work is hard, but busy, which is good & I have my own little house and garden, which I love as it's my own space to do what I please with.
I think that the other volunteers have been easy to get to know & are all really friendly. We are relying on each other for entertainment as there are no other sources really; no tv, no cinema, etc. Plus, you need to make friends quickly when so many people are passing through. Whether they'll be friends for life is another question, but it's fun to have the company whilst on the journey.
I could easily stay here six months at least.
There are things I miss from home; other than people; I think the main thing is the food- although I think what I eat here is probably the healthiest stuff I've had in years, all fresh homecooked meat & veg. I also miss the convenience of having everything on my doorstep; but necessity is the mother of invention, as they say.
Still, there are many advantages of being here; 30 degree sunshine when apparently it was snowing in the UK last week; sheema (got to try it to see what that one is), the most beautiful landscapes, wildlife.
Last night, I was greeted by a cockroach nearly as big as my fist when I came home after dinner, and had great fun trying to kill it with a torch (not a good idea as it scuttled away as soon as it saw the light) & then screaming because I thought it was on my clothes.
Will let you know all my latest adventures with insects within the next week or so- providing that the electricity stays on all day for once, which doesn't often happen.
