Well you will be pleased to hear we arrived safely in Tanzania! The flights were really good, but very long! I forgot how long 12 hours in a plane actually is - luckily we got to spread out over 4 seats so took turns sleeping.

Flying into South Africa was strange for me. It brought back all sorts of memories of flying out as a child of 8! (like 100 years ago). Part of me felt like I was coming home - loved hearing people talking Africaans around me and swapping easily between it and English several times in a conversation! Oh to be bilingual again.

We had 2 nights in Dar es Salaam (Haven of Peace), and managed to communicate enough with the locals to buy what we needed. The money takes a little getting used to - 900 shillings is about a NZ$1. So we are buying things for thousands of shillings!

From there we took the ferry to Zanzibar where we are right now. Tonight we ate at a 2 person table lit by torchlight (those fire torches you put in the ground) outside on the beach... Its so great! The beach here is just beautiful and gives us a chance to recover before heading back into Tanzania.

Times up, but will write again soon! Lots of love! K & D
