Sunset over Lake VictoriaSunset over Lake VictoriaSunset over Lake Victoria

We couldn't swim in the lake due to bilharzia but we could sit at the outdoor tables, order drinks from the bar and watch the sunset.
From Shell: I have to say the trip to the Serengeti NP and back was one of the best travel experiences I have ever had. It was rough, dirty, tiring, confronting and great fun. I'm still dreaming about it 2 weeks later.

Things that stick in my mind are:

- how fertile the land was in Western Kenya
- answering Marja's call for me to open the window in my campground shower and looking straight in the eyes of a huge bull elephant
- the interest and/or excitement from local kids (even the teenages that yelled "piss off" and threw rocks at the truck)
- walking through markets - both ones where people were friendly and chatty and ones where there was some seriously hard selling going on
- sticking my head out of the tent at 1.30am after hearing something grazing nearby, only to see a half tonne buffalo turn it's head towards me
- the first hot shower in 3 days
- seeing 3 lionesses hunting (and being secretly happy that our arrival probably saved a zebra)
- singing really bad songs around the campfire atop Ngorongoro crater
- laying in the tent and hearing lions call after making a kill nearby and then seeing hyenas finishing off that kill a few hours later
- standing on a possibly dodgy look-out over the Great Rift Valley
- eating traditional African dishes
- walking to the Barclays bank in Musoma, on Lake Victoria.
