So far Tabitha is still single. Shirley and I have been beating the guys off… have been to Mountain Lodge (7200 feet up). The highlight was Tabitha running through the forest with her pants down with a few Fire Ants attached to her ass. Quite the lovely sight.

Next we were off to Lake Nakuru, which is home to 1.9 million flamingos. A beautiful pink sight. We also saw our first Rhino - rounding out the complete Big 5 sighting. Unfortunately it chased us as he was a wee bit grumpy cuz someone had sawed off his horn and he was pissed (but it weren’t us!).

From there it was two nights at the Masai Mara. Being such wonderful giving girls, we let them upgrade us to the one and only State Room! Wow! Second day we did the Hot Air Balloon over the Mara watching the sunrise. Shirley had a very emotional mission and now Jim will forever be in Africa. It was quite the windy day and our landing was something else. The basket tipped and we skidded 50m bumping along the ground with us in it. We loved every minute of it. Sorta like a roller coaster ride. Then we had a champagne breakfast where we landed. Turned out the balloon came to rest very close to a hyena den. Now that was pretty cool! We got in the truck right away and drove to the den. They surrounded us and we learned later that they will attack the truck and bite the tires.

We are in Tanzania, first tenting for two nights on the Serengeti - if you have to tent, these are the only way to go. Two Queen sized four poster size beds, double bathroom, sitting area, porch and chaise lounge!!! The first night, we had a leopard attack some baboons outside our tents. The second nights, we narrowly escaped the wrath of two Cape Buffalos.

Wednesday, February 8th, we left the Serengeti and headed to Ngorongoro Mountain with the lodge on the rim of the crater. We stopped on the Olduvai (pronounced Oldupai) Gorge and saw the museum from Dr. Leakey and where the first hominids were discovered.

Yesterday we spent 10 HOT and EXTREMELY dusty crisscrossing the crater, overlooking the Hippo Pools. Awesome.

We are off to Lake Manyara for one night and then to Arusha to catch our connecting flights to Jo’burg.

That’s it for now… more news to come. Internet access is spotty (at best) and SLOW!

This has been a Mar, Shirl and Tab compilation.

Out of Africa
It's too bad you guys aren't having a good time! I thought you'd been eaten by lions or something but I guess the internet isn't available out on the Serengeti. Have been enviously following your trek across the continent and checked out the 'tents' that you were roughing it in. Everyone is fine here and compared to you 3 my life is quite dull - no rhinos - no hyenas - just the occasional squirrel scurrying across the backyard. On the bright side -spring is here - no rain for 3 days - beautiful sunshine - but what do you care! YOU'RE IN AFRICA!!!!!!!! Love to all - have a great and safe time - thinking of you lots. Look forward to hearing from you in the next10 days! Cheers - Love Leeney
